Let’s openly ponder 5 players the Cardinals could draft in the first round
Rumors are flying about who the Cardinals will take with the No. 1 overall selection. Here are five guys Arizona might go with him Round 1.
No team is more in control of the 2019 NFL Draft than the Arizona Cardinals. After all, they have the first overall selection. The identity of the player GM Steve Keim selects will shape the franchise for years to come. Simply put, the Cardinals have to get this choice right.
Predictably, the team with the No. 1 pick has lots of needs to fill. The most obvious question the Cardinals need to answer is whether or not they believe Josh Rosen is the quarterback of their future. The franchise spent a first round pick on him last year, but the arrival of Kliff Kingsbury as the team’s new head coach has put Rosen’s status in jeopardy.
Quarterback isn’t the only big need though. The team clearly needs an upgrade at tackle to keep whoever they choose to be their signal caller of the future upright. A new player to serve as the team’s No. 1 wideout would also be a welcome addition. Without further delay, here are five players the Cardinals could conceivably draft in Round 1.
5. Jawaan Taylor
Rees Odhiambo is not the guy you want to serve as your starting left tackle. Things at right tackle may be even more concerning for the Cardinals. It’s easy to understand why taking a top quality tackle with the first overall pick would interest Keim and the Arizona front office.
Taylor is a guy who is shooting up draft boards at the moment. He had a monster season at Florida and his NFL combine drew rave reviews from scouts. He’s surpassed Jonah Williams as the tackle most people think will hear his name called first in the draft. It’s unlikely, but not out of the question that the Cardinals could take their right tackle of the future with the No. 1 pick.
