WWE 205 Live Preview, March 19, 2019: Watch online
Here is everything you need to know heading into the upcoming edition of WWE 205 Live for March 19, airing on the WWE Network.
WWE 205 Live returns with one of the most important matches in the short history of the WWE Network weekly show. Cedric Alexander and Tony Nese will face off in the finals of the No. 1 contender’s tournament with the winner facing Buddy Murphy for the Cruiserweight Championship at WrestleMania 35.
The annual Cruiserweight Championship match at WrestleMania is the biggest match of the year for the cruiserweight division despite the likelihood of it once again landing on the Kickoff Show. Every member of the 205 Live roster has the goal of getting the WrestleMania match.
Nese earned his spot in the finals by defeating the high-flying Kalisto and the grappling specialist Drew Gulak. The promos from Nese have featured him expressing his desire to return home to the New York/New Jersey area and winning gold on the biggest stage at WrestleMania. There is also the element of his relationship with Murphy as on-screen friends that could set up an exciting matchup.
Alexander landed in the finals with impressive victories over former Cruiserweight Champion Akira Tozawa and NXT standout Oney Lorcan. Following Mustafa Ali’s call-up to SmackDown, Alexander has remained the unofficial face of 205 Live as the man most associated with the show over the past two and a half years. Murphy and Alexander have delivered classic matches in the past and could provide a fun WrestleMania moment for 205 Live.
Mike Kanellis is still on a losing streak despite the promises from his wife and manager Maria Kanellis about their luck changing. 205 Live general manager Drake Maverick warned Mike last week that he needs wins to remain on the show and that he would be receiving another opportunity on this week’s episode.
Mike’s opponent has yet to be revealed, but the importance of him needing the win has been set. Maria and Mike each must find relevance on 205 Live, and a win is the major step needed to progress. Will Mike finally end his losing streak?
Ariya Daivari was featured in a backstage promo last week. The cruiserweight stated his proverbial leash is coming off and we will witness one year of frustration unleashed. Daivari has been on his own since turning on former partner Hideo Itami before the latter was released from WWE.
The Cruiserweight Champion Murphy has been on vacation in his home country of Australia for the past few weeks while the tournament took place. It is unknown if Murphy will return this week to see his new challenger or spend another week enjoying his vacation.
