5 players the Jets might select in Round 1
2. Josh Allen
Josh Allen moves ahead of Williams on this list because he’s undeniably a great fit with the Jets’ defensive scheme. The former Kentucky standout is tailor-made to play as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 system.
When you watch his college tape you see a linebacker who excels at rushing the passer. There’s little doubt that he can use his speed and bend to beat tackles at the NFL level. He might struggle a little bit to hold the edge against the run early in his career, but that’s a skill he can improve drastically with added weight and better technique.
Frankie Levu and Jordan Jenkins only managed to combine for 10 sacks from their outside linebacker spots last season. Allen is a player who projects to be able to hit that number on his own. Putting him on one side and Jenkins on the other could really give offensive coordinators something to worry about on third down.
Allen may not be the No. 1 player on the Jets board, but he might be No. 2 or 3. That puts him squarely in play for their first round selection.
