5 players the Jets might select in Round 1
1. Nick Bosa
Nick Bosa gets an edge over the other defensive ends at the top of his class because of his versatility. There’s little doubt that he can produce in either a three or four-man front. That’s music to the ears of the Jets’ front office.
Specifically, Bosa showed the ability to beat single blocks on the inside during his time at Ohio State. This is not a guy who depends on raw speed to run around offensive tackles. Bosa has the power and technique to knock a guy off-balance and beat him to the inside as well.
He will need to add a little more weight to his frame to play in a 3-4 defense, but his body type looks like one that can get up to 280 without sacrificing much speed or athleticism. That’s pretty close to ideal weight for a defensive end who can hold up against both the run and pass.
The bottom line here is that Bosa projects to be a special pass rusher. If the Jets get the chance to take him at No. 3, look for them to rush to the podium. The only question is whether or not he’ll still be on the board when they get the opportunity to make their first selection.
