March Madness: Most famous alumni from every 2019 NCAA Tournament team
By Bryan Mauro
North Carolina Tar Heels – Michael Jordan
North Carolina has had its fair share of notable alumni. None more famous than the greatest basketball player of all time in Michael Jordan (attended 1981-1984). Jordan was at the center of the Bulls dynasties of the ’90s, leading his team to six NBA titles. As a player, the individual accolades speak for the first ballot Hall of Famer. He was a five-time MVP, 10-time scoring champ and a six-time Finals MVP.
North Carolina Central – 9th Wonder
Some will say that the artist is only as good as the producer. Patrick Douthit, better known by his stage name 9th Wonder, is a hip hop record producer and rapper. He has worked with huge names in the industry like Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown, Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole. When he raps he uses the name 9thMatic. He is currently teaching a class at his alma mater.
North Dakota State Bison – Carson Wentz
When a school is as dominant as North Dakota State is at football it makes sense that their most famous alumni would be a football player. Carson Wentz (Class of ’15) was the catalyst for the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles. When the Super Bowl was played, however, Wentz was injured and had to sit out. The quarterback was able to guide the Eagles back to the playoffs this season and appears to be worth the investment by the Eagles.
Northeastern Huskies – Shawn Fanning
Filesharing when it comes to music and video games was a very popular practice for almost everyone. Napster was the first of the programs to utilize this software and Shawn Fanning (attended 1998-1999) created the peer-to-peer file sharing program while in college. In the early ’00s, the entrepreneur was at the center of a huge lawsuit. The band Metallica sued Napster for copyright infringement, the lawsuit proved to be the end of Napster.
