Oklahoma Sooners – Adrian Peterson
The NFL makes another appearance on the list. This time the player will go down as a first ballot Hall of Famer and in his younger days was one of the most dominant running backs of his era. Adrian Peterson (attended 2004-06) made a living on gashing NFL defenses. The running back owns the most rushing yards in a game with 296, a record which may never be broken. Peterson has reached the tail end of his career and he is currently the feature back for the Washington Redskins.
Oregon Ducks – Phil Knight
Nike is a powerful brand, whether it is their shoes, clothing or sponsorship. Everyone has seen the Nike signature swoosh symbol everywhere. Phil Knight (Class of ’59) is the co-founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Nike Company. He is responsible for developing one of the most popular brands in the world. As of 2018 Knight was listed as one of the richest men in the world. His net worth is credited to be about $34.7 billion. Outside of Nike, Knight also owns the stop motion film company Laika.
Prairie View A and M Panthers – Mr. T
“I pity the fool” is a popular phrase coined by Laurence Tureaud, also known as Mr. T (attended 1970-1971.) He is known for his tough guy persona, his distinctive haircut and his gold jewelry. Mr. T. starred on A-Team as BA Baracus and as the main antagonist in Rocky III as Clubber Lang. The actor was also a professional wrestler. In a time before the movies and wrestling, Mr. T aspired to be a football player, as he tried out for the Green Bay Packers but was cut due to an injury.
Purdue Boilermakers – Neil Armstrong
The first trip to the moon by Apollo 11 was one of the biggest events in American history. Neil Armstrong (Class of ’55) was the first man to walk on the moon. After he returned from the moon mission, the astronaut was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Richard Nixon.
