WWE NXT UK Preview, March 20 2019: Watch online
By Jeremy Klein
Everything you need to know ahead of the March 20, 2019 edition of WWE NXT UK.
Well, it’s official: Pete Dunne and WALTER can co-exist … but it doesn’t mean they’re friends. The WWE United Kingdom Champion and NXT UK‘s resident giant man were able to work together to batter, bruise and chop their way through The Coffey Brothers in the main event of last week’s episode. Following the match’s conclusion — one that saw WALTER pick up the pinfall after saving Dunne from being hit with his own title — our heroes had a tense stand-off, literally a UK title-length apart. Dunne went to pick up his title, only for WALTER to place his WALTER-sized foot down, and pick it up himself. After giving it one deep look, WALTER handed the title to Dunne, and walked away. Did his performance in the main event and actions afterwards send a message, and cement WALTER as the next challenger to Dunne’s historic UK title reign?
The March 13 edition of NXT UK was heavy on promos, setting up potential events for this week and beyond.
During a very serious promo — in which he removed his glasses to show how serious he is — Eddie Dennis laid out his plan for the NXT UK roster: beat them all, one-by-one. If you’re looking to become the premier talent on a brand, there’s really no better mindset than “defeat everyone.” Making his return this week from “exile” to wrestle Ligero, Dennis will look to begin his ascent up the UK ranks.
As it has for last few weeks, a vignette hyping the re-debut of Primate and Wild Boar aired, with the tagline “The Hunt Begins… Next Week.” As “next week” is now this week, the rabid duo surely have their sights set on running roughshod over the entire tag team division. One matchup that feels a certainty is with the almost-odd couple pairing of Kenny Williams and Amir Jordan. The undersized duo have been on the rise, and picked up an entertaining win against the much larger team of Saxon Huxley and Tyson T-Bone. Williams and Jordan seem the perfect team to be put through the buzzsaw of Primate and Wild Boar.
While announcing that he would become a full-time member of the UK roster, Noam Dar successfully turned heel by being in Coventry and saying that Scotland is good. Dar then trashed his potential competition in NXT UK, particularly verbally laying into Mark Andrews. This brought out Andrews, who proceeded to lay into Dar, physically. And just like that, we’ve got ourselves a ready-made feud between two super-athletic members of the NXT UK roster.
An indignant Kassius Ohno continued his NXT gimmick of being mad about the existence of wrestlers more talented than him. Like a Rolling Stone reader complaining about millennials killing real rock music, Ohno runs down his NXT UK competition. With a loss at the hands of WALTER already under his belt, Ohno must be looking to prove his self-proclaimed wrestling genius against a younger, smaller UK opponent in the weeks to come.
In perhaps an ill-advised move, Xia Brookside called out Rhea Ripley for being a bully. Ripley is, of course, one of the most vicious and physically imposing members of the NXT UK roster, not to mention a former champion. So, there’s a chance here that Brookside’s comments, while valid, will come back to bite her in a big way, sooner rather than later.
Jinny gave an interview about how she’s sick and tired of hearing about Toni Storm, and doesn’t care about Storm, except when Storm gets to be the center of attention instead of her. It’s a bit of a convoluted message considering how much she mentions the champ, but Jinny makes it clear she has her eyes set on being Storm’s next challenger, and becoming the next NXT UK Women’s champion. She might however, have some competition for that goal. Kay Lee Ray made her much-anticipated debut on NXT UK, looking impressive in an easy win over Candy Floss.

Coming full circle on main events, this week’s main event is set to feature Tyler Bate of Moustache Mountain going one-on-one with James Drake, one half of NXT UK Tag Team Champions the Grizzled Young Veterans. In a promo, Bate and Trent Seven made it clear that their rivalry with the Grizzled Young Vets is far from finished. With their run in this year’s Dusty Classic over, Moustache Mountain have reset their sights on the NXT UK tag titles, and on the team that defeated them at Takeover: Blackpool to become inaugural champs. A victory for Bate over Drake would do a lot towards re-establishing Moustache Mountain as a top team worthy of NXT UK gold.
