Suns are bringing Jimmer Fredette back to the NBA
With an open roster spot and nothing to lose, the Phoenix Suns are set to meet with Jimmer Fredette.
At 17-55 right now, the Phoenix Suns are locked into a last-place finish in the Western Conference. They also have an open roster spot, and according to John Gambadoro of the 98.7 FM the Suns were set to meet with Jimmer Fredette on Thursday with an eye on signing him for the rest of the season.
The Suns have officially signed Fredette for the rest of the season, according to Gambadoro, with a team option for the 2019-20 season.
Fredette has been playing for the Shanghai Sharks in the Chinese Basketball Association, and he averaged 36.0 points per game this season (fourth in the league). The Sharks were eliminated from the playoffs on Tuesday.
After leading the country in scoring during his senior season at BYU (28.9 points per game), Fredette was drafted 10th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks and dealt to the Sacramento Kings on draft night in 2011. After being waived by the Kings in February of 2014, he spent time with the Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs (waived during the 2015 preseason), New Orleans Pelicans and New York Knicks.
Fredette’s most recent stint in the NBA came in the 2015-16 season, with four games for the Pelicans and two games for the Knicks. He spent a big chunk of that season with the Westchester Knicks in the D-League, before landing in China where he just completed his third season with Shanghai.
In 235 NBA games, Fredette has averaged 6.0 points, 1.4 assists and one rebound per game while making 38.1 percent of his 3-pointers. He led the Chinese Basketball Association in scoring in his first season (37.6 points per game), and finished second the following season (36.9 points per game).
The Suns have officially signed Fredette for the rest of the season, with a team option for the 2019-20 season.

Fredette is now 30 years old. So even though his prowess as a shooter could find a place in the league, his time to really stick in the NBA has passed. But with six home games left on the schedule, the Suns stand to sell some extra tickets late in another lost season by bringing him in.
