A five-count rundown from this week’s episode of WWE NXT, keeping you up to date on the latest happenings in the black and yellow brand.

NXT this week was a very interesting episode as it pretty much centered around the now vacant NXT Championship, and that took up a good majority of the show. By doing so, however, we got yet another piece of the puzzle for the NXT Takeover: New York card. So without further ado, here’s another edition of the NXT Five Count.

1. The future of the NXT Championship is revealed

NXT opened up this week with the creator of NXT, WWE’s COO Triple H. He came down to the ring holding the NXT Championship, so if anyone questioned what would come of Tommaso Ciampa’s title reign after his neck surgery, it was very evident what the answer was going to be before Triple H even spoke.

The Game was greeted with a standing ovation and chants of “Triple H” followed by one for the NXT brand. He said he didn’t need to remind anyone of how special this place (Full Sail) is. He said everything about NXT is something special.

Triple H went on to say that dreams can become possibilities in NXT. But the reality is, for any man or woman that steps into that ring, the dream can end at any moment. He said he originally was going to come out there and announce the main event for NXT Takeover: New York, pitting Johnny Gargano against Ciampa, but reality has made the match an impossibility.

Triple H confirms what most of us already know, that Ciampa recently had to go undergo neck surgery and had to relinquish the NXT Championship. He does confirm, however, that Gargano will still compete for the NXT Championship at Takeover.

His opponent will be determined later on in the show as Ricochet, Adam Cole, Aleister Black, Velveteen Dream  and Matt Riddle will compete in a fatal five-way match, with the winner facing Gargano. Triple H announced that the match at Takeover will be decisive, as it will be two-out-of-three falls.

Triple H walked to the commentary table and sat the NXT Championship in the middle of it for everyone to see and to remember what’s at stake. We now know the main event of Takeover will be determined by the time this week’s edition of NXT is over.
