What happened on this week’s edition of NXT UK? Let’s break it down.

A big main event, wild animals and a major championship match announcement: Here’s what went down on the latest episode of NXT UK.

1. A UK takeover of Takeover

NXT UK General Manager Johnny Saint and Assistant to the General Manager Sid Scala opened the show with a major announcement: Pete Dunne will be putting his WWE United Kingdom Championship on the line at NXT Takeover: New York against … they don’t know yet. But, rest assured, it will be someone.

This prompts Dunne to come to the ring and demand rather simply, “Give me WALTER.” The crowd goes wild.

Fast forward three matches, four promos and one Stoker and Howley appearance later, and it’s made official. As WALTER walks away from them, cameras catch up with Saint and Scala backstage, who confirm it. Takeover: New York. Pete Dunne. WALTER. The WWE United Kingdom Championship. Hang on to your butts.

This was really the only direction things were ever going to be headed. Ever since his debut at Takeover: Blackpool, it has been pretty clear that WALTER was being positioned as Dunne’s next challenger. Just for good measure though, last week’s main event firmly cemented that notion, as Dunne and WALTER stood across from each other in the ring, with literally only the UK Championship between them.

Dunne has had a lot of challengers during this crazy title reign that’s lasted longer than Jodie Whittaker has been The Doctor. None have posed as much of a threat to end it all as WALTER does. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves too much (but declare with a healthy spoonful of hyperbole nonetheless) that this match could potentially steal the entire WrestleMania weekend. Get hype.*

*FanSided reminds you to please to get hype responsibly, the Takeover: New York card is, of course, stacked.
