Philadelphia Eagles sign Vinny Curry: Grade, reactions and more
By Joe Romano
The Philadelphia Eagles brought back a familiar face in defensive end Vinny Curry.
After losing some defensive lineman to free agency the Philadelphia Eagles went out and revamped the unit. The most recent addition was their former second round draft pick Vinny Curry. He joins a group that already brought in former Jaguars defensive tackle Malik Jackson. After playing last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Curry was released. The Eagles are once again featuring a talented and versatile defensive line that can wreck opposing game plans.
Curry’s signing was announced by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Thursday. It was one of many during a time that is considered the second wave of NFL free agency.
National Reaction
Eagles’ insider Dave Spadaro quoted Curry’s excitement about returning to the team that drafted him.
Jimmy Kempski of Philly Voice showcased how this signing was like Back to the Future for the Eagles defensive line.
SportsRadio94 of Philadelphia was happy to quote Curry’s excitement to return home. He grew up an Eagles fan and had higher offers on the table but chose to come back to Philadelphia.

Contract Details
According to Rapoport the deal for Curry is a one-year deal worth $2.25 million dollars. Rapoport notes that Curry can earn an additional $1.25 million from incentives in the contract.
Grade
This is the type of low cost moves to round out rosters that make teams better. Curry is coming off the worst season of his career but he never really stuck in Tampa Bay. He gets a chance to be on a one year “prove it” deal before hitting the market again in 2020.
Growing up an Eagles’ fan, then getting drafted there must have been a dream come true for Curry. Now that he is back where it started and where he loves, his play should improve. Playing with elite talent like Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, Malik Jackson and Derrick Barnett will help him find a role. Curry will be used in a rotation on the edge and may be taking the spot of Chris Long.
