The First Round delivered a ton of insane plays, crazy finishes and moments everyone is talking about that encapsulate what March Madness is all about.

This is what March Madness is all about.

You never know what you’ll get when March Madness begins every year, and this year was no exception. While we saw plenty of huge upsets in the first round, there were also a ton of moments that left the country either confused, shocked or stunned.

These are the five most memorable moments of the first two days fo the NCAA Tournament, beginning with the strange ending to an upset that almost came to be.

5. Auburn tries to hand the game to New Mexico State, but the Aggies don’t take it

For a long time, the 5-12 matchup between Auburn and New Mexico State was a laugher. Auburn built a 67-54 lead in the second half, and it looked like this game was all but over.

The Aggies fought back, cutting the deficit to two when they pushed the down ball the floor for a great opportunity at a wide open layup to tie the game. New Mexico State didn’t take it, opting instead to kick it outside for a three, but Auburn bailed them out with a foul.

Terrell Brown headed to the line for the Aggies with three shots, but missed two out of three, leaving New Mexico State down one. Auburn couldn’t secure the rebound, however, giving the Aggies yet another chance to go for the win with 1.1 seconds to go.

New Mexico State got off a corner three, but the shot was completely airmailed as the Tigers survived to fight another day. It’s incredible to think that if any number of things went in the other direction we could have seen all four 12-seeds advance into the Round of 32.
