After rolling by Marquette on Thursday in the first round, Ja Morant and Murray State will look to upset Florida State and advance to the Sweet 16.
No player made a bigger name for himself in the first round of the NCAA Tournament than Murray State Racers’ point guard Ja Morant. Morant put on an absolute show against Marquette, racking up 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 16 assists to help the Racers upset the 5-seed Golden Eagles and advance to the Round of 32.
The Twitterverse was abuzz watching Morant go to work, and his dazzling play reminded many basketball observers of a young Russell Westbrook. Morant will need to step up his game again to help the Racers spring another upset and get to the Sweet 16 by topping Florida State.
The Seminoles are a sleeper pick to get to the Final Four out of the West Region, and they survived against a pesky Vermont squad 76-69 to move on to the second round. Mfiondu Kabengele had a monster game for the Seminoles, racking up 21 points and 10 rebounds off the bench, and Florida State needed every one of those points against a Vermont squad that nailed 16 three’s in the game.
The Seminoles may have the better team on paper, but Morant is without a doubt the best player on the floor in this one. It could be a war in Hartford with the winner advancing to a potential showdown with Gonzaga in the Sweet 16.
