The Walking Dead left viewers a lasting visual to conclude “The Calm Before” one episode ending that won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
The following recap contains spoilers for The Walking Dead season 9, episode 15.
The Walking Dead’s latest episode left an absolutely brutal image to end tonight’s episode, literally character after character had their heads spiked up on a stick because of Alpha’s wrath. Enid, Tara, Henry, Addy, The Highwaymen’s top guys, the blacksmith’s wife, and more all gone. At first it appeared the episode would focus on other males at the Kingdom trying to underhandedly steal Lydia away from Henry by putting doubts in her head. There was relationship after relationship on display like a Walking Dead Love Boat and then destruction unraveled.
First Alpha would disguise herself as a community member of Alexandria after taking out a Hilltop resident and taking her hair. She would then see the entire fair at the Kingdom herself before attempting to take Lydia with her during the movie screening. Something was already amiss for Lydia as she anxiously waited for Henry to come sit with her during the movie but instead the hand that suddenly touched hers wasn’t Henry… But her mother Alpha, which led to a confrontation outside. Lydia told her she doesn’t want to go back, that she believes in these people and she could scream right now to have Alpha surrounded. However, she doesn’t want anything to happen to her, she just wants to be left alone.
A group featuring Daryl, Michonne, Carol, and Yumiko would be surrounded by Alpha and Beta’s Whisperers. Alpha would request a one on one discussion with Daryl still declaring him an unofficial leader, even saying does “She speak for you?” when Michonne commented at one point. Alpha showed Daryl the massive group of walkers they can steer in their direction at any moment. She would then tell Daryl she hopes he can take care of her. Informing him of a marking between North and South of where their lands meet and end. Alpha would tell a confused Daryl he would soon understand the marking in the North.
What the group of Daryl, Michonne, Carol, and Yumiko discovered was an absolutely gruesome sight, multiple characters dead. Siddiq was the lone person left alive to tell the story, similar to Pirates of the Caribbean’s concept of “Dead Men Tell No Tales.” Earlier the group’s leaders had finally signed Michonne’s original charter and promised for retaliation if any community is attacked…
One wonders if Negan might be freed soon in light of this onslaught, for revenge against The Whisperers.
