5-star recruit Cole Anthony will make college decision in a few weeks
Cole Anthony is still taking his time to choose which university he’ll be suiting up for next season.
In late October Oak Hill product Cole Anthony tweeted out a graphic with the top six schools he’s choosing between to take his basketball talents to: North Carolina, Georgetown, Oregon, Miami, Wake Forest and Notre Dame. Five months later, preparing to play in the 2019 McDonald’s All-American Game, and he’s still undecided, but a decision could come soon.
While he was quick to not lean any way in indicating what school he’s thinking of attending, Anthony said that he’s taking his time to make, up until this point, the biggest decision of his life. The son of former NBA player Greg Anthony, Cole was clear that his decision on his school will be his own.
“[My parents] will definitely have their say, and I’ll throw their opinions in my decision, but my dad wants me to go to the school where I have the best chance of winning,” Anthony told FanSided’s Mark Carman.
Being in the best position to succeed is at the top of the list for Anthony’s decision, but he’s also factoring in the education side of it as well. While it’s unlikely he’ll remain at whatever school he chooses for the full four years, Anthony acknowledges that playing basketball isn’t a lifelong career.
“If I’m lucky, basketball will take care of me for 15 years, but I’m not going to be set for the rest of my life just doing basketball,” Anthony said.
The fact that Anthony is thinking so far in advance in his life is a good sign for his future. Oftentimes young athletes don’t think about life after playing the sport they love stops, and even though it doesn’t appear that Anthony will have a short career, it’s always a good sign when a player is thinking about his future beyond the sport.
