Round 4 – Pick 125

Mark Fields, CB, Clemson

The additions of Kareem Jackson and Bryce Callahan give Vic Fangio a trio of corners that fit exactly what he likes to do. Those two join the impressive Chris Harris Jr. atop Denver’s depth chart. Last year’s fourth round pick Isaac Yiadom will look to crack the rotation as well. Adding depth at the position would be a wise investment. Both Harris and Jackson are approaching 30 and there are already rumblings Harris may not return for 2020.

Mark Fields of Clemson is the most slept on corner in the draft. That may be because he rarely saw the field for the National Champions despite obvious skills. His combine opened some eyes with a sub-4.4 40-yard dash. His tape is so limited it does bring about legitimate questions as to why he did not see the field more. When he did play the talent was obvious, just watch the National Championship game against the elite receivers Alabama put on the field. Fields was a dominant corner who remained on hips and broke up passes.

Fangio will love what Fields brings between the lines. He’s an aggressive player who is not afraid to mix it up with anyone. Even without playing a ton, his confidence is sky high. His lack of length may hurt him at the next level but you can’t teach that speed and aggressiveness. There are other corners in this range that could be selected. Denver needs to add to that position and potentially someone to develop. Fields is that type of player and gives Fangio another chess piece to add to a talented group in the long-term.
