3. Buffalo Bills

Imagine going from the sunny warm weather of Tampa Bay to the blistering cold of Buffalo. That could be a reality if the Bills were smart enough to trade for Gerald McCoy. Buffalo was aggressive on the fringes of free agency in helping young quarterback Josh Allen. Bringing in receivers, like Cole Beasley and John Brown and center Mitch Morse to make the transition to year two easier. They should be looking at their defense in a similar fashion. Don’t break the bank but make smart signings to compliment the young pieces and excellent secondary.

McCoy would bring a veteran presence to Sean McDermott’s attacking defense. This defense is built on attacking gaps and penetration, two of McCoy’s best skills. Losing Kyle Williams leaves a massive hole in the middle for Buffalo. McCoy could fill that hole while giving them excellent pass rush reps in the process.

Right now the Bills are projected to start Star Lotulelei and Harrison Phillips inside. McCoy is better than both and fits the mold of what McDermott wants in his defensive tackle better than both. His cap number would not impact Buffalo long term and they currently carry the fifth most space in the NFL.

This is an odd marriage but one that makes sense. Buffalo needs talent up front and have significant space to absorb McCoy’s deal. Just like with the Colts, McCoy brings a veteran presence to a young locker room. He also fills a hole that will allow them to address a myriad of other needs in the draft or with other free agents.
