WWE 205 Live preview, March 26, 2019: Watch online
Here is everything you need to know heading into the upcoming edition of WWE 205 Live for March 26, airing on the WWE Network.
Tony Nese became 205 Live‘s official No. 1 contender to challenge for Buddy Murphy’s Cruiserweight Championship at WrestleMania 35 after last week’s win over Cedric Alexander. The long road to WrestleMania for Nese featured him defeating Alexander, Drew Gulak and Kalisto in the tournament to earn this opportunity against a familiar opponent.
The former friendship between Nese and Murphy ended when Murphy attacked Nese last week. Both wrestlers teamed together for months, with the friendship and training bonds uniting them against common enemies. Murphy however decided to end this to get an advantage over his new opponent heading into WrestleMania 35. Nese did not see the moment coming at all during his post-match celebration.
This week’s episode of 205 Live will feature Nese reacting to his former friend betraying him. Nese’s journey has become the top story on 205 Live with his dream of winning the Cruiserweight Championship at WrestleMania in his home of New York. The aftermath of getting attacked will likely see a promo or showdown between the two cruiserweights ahead of their big match. Nese and Murphy must sell the importance of the match over the next two weeks.
The only advertised match for 205 Live this week is a six-man tag match consisting of the Lucha House Party vs Gulak, Jack Gallagher and Humberto Carrillo. All wrestlers involved are trying to build momentum after the tournament dominated the show in recent months. Kalisto, Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado are struggling to get time on Raw, and a match on 205 Live will see them teaming together again as a mainstay of the cruiserweight brand.
Carrillo is hesitantly teaming with Gulak and Gallagher after they have being trying to win him over for weeks. The duo hopes to prevent Carrillo from following the path of most other 205 Live wrestlers in the form of relying on risk-taking moves. This will be the first match in which these three performers all team together. Gulak and Gallagher’s influence on Carrillo should result in a change of his in-ring style. The match will be worth watching given the level of talent and versatility involved in this bout.
Another story to pay attention to heading into the show will be the future of Mike and Maria Kanellis. Mike ended his long losing streak by defeating former Cruiserweight Champion Akira Tozawa last week. The desire of the Kanellis couple to take over 205 Live should be part of the episode this week. Even if Mike does not have a match, the likelihood of him appearing in a backstage segment with general manager Drake Maverick is high.
Maria has demanded Mike receive bigger opportunities and last week’s win finally gives her the rationale to request it. The win last week showed that Mike will continue to rise in the rankings of the 205 Live pecking order. Tozawa may be in line for a rematch to gain an opportunity for redemption for his loss.
Alexander has been the top player on 205 Live for most of the past year. The loss in the finals of the No. 1 contender’s tournament has him on the outside of the title picture looking in during WrestleMania season. Alexander’s importance to the brand should see him involved in at least a small segment to provide an outlook at his future.
