Phil Cofer is not with the team after the death of his father, but heās on the mind of his Florida State teammates as they play Gonzaga in the Sweet 16.
Florida State is without senior forward Phil CoferĀ for tonightās Sweet 16 game vs. Gonzaga after the death of his father Michael last Thursday after a 12-year battle with a rare disease. Cofer is gone but remains on the minds ofĀ hisĀ teammates, coaches and fans.
Michael Cofer is being honored with aĀ blackĀ MC sticker onĀ the jerseys ahead of Saturdayās funeral. Messages for Phil and Michael CoferĀ are alsoĀ on theĀ shoes of his teammates.
Cofer is battling an injury so his availabilityĀ forĀ getting on the court wasĀ in question, but there is no question how muchĀ he means to his team. Florida State leftĀ an open spotĀ on the benchĀ and in their line during theĀ national anthem.
This is a touching tribute for Cofer who despite going through some of the worst time of his life could be comforted knowing his teammates are thinking of him at this time.
Florida State has dedicated the game in Michael Coferās honor and is also playing for their teammate who is preparing to bury his father. Itās the love of his teammates and coaches that were around him in the aftermath of hearing the news on the start of the NCAA Tournament.
Theyāll be playing with heavy hearts, but also playing for their brother who, should the Seminoles advance, would play on Saturday night, the same day as the funeral.
