Oakland Athletics

It was not the best start to the season for the Oakland Athletics, who went over to Japan and lost both games to the Seattle Mariners. Still, this is a team that should be in the mix throughout the 2018 MLB season, especially after surprising so many people by winning over 90 games last season, and making it to the playoffs as a Wild Card.

This is a team that does not spend a lot of money, but they somehow figure out a way to put a winning baseball team on the field. Guys like Khris Davis can turn a game on its head with one swing, and the pitching staff is actually pretty solid in the rotation, and in the bullpen. They are going to hang around once again in 2019.

Best case scenario

The Houston Astros are likely going to win the AL West, as they are one of the best teams in baseball, but when it comes to Wild Card teams in the American League, you have to think Oakland is going to be right there. If their pitching holds up, and Jurickson Profar has a bounceback season, the A’s could have the horses they need to win over 90 games once again in 2019 and try to make some noise in the playoffs.

Worst case scenario

The Athletics do not win enough games to qualify for a Wild Card, and are left on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs. This is a team that really came out of nowhere to win nearly 100 games last season, and while repeating that is going to be hard, they may have to come close to doing so if they want to punch their ticket to  the postseason in 2019.
