ANAHEIM, CA – SEPTEMBER 15: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim center fielder Mike Trout (27) hits a two run home run in the first inning of a game against the Seattle Mariners played on September 15, 2018 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in Anaheim, CA. Los Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pulled off a huge transaction this past week, agreeing with star centerfield Mike Trout on a deal that was worth $430 million. That seems like chump change for a guy who produces the way Trout does, and when it is all said and done, he will be one of the best players to ever put on a uniform in Major League Baseball.

Surrounding Trout with talent has been an issue for the Angels, and it has led to them missing out on the playoffs in the last four seasons. While Trout has collected MVP trophies, he has not been on display enough during the postseason during his time in Los Angeles, and this season could be another long one in LaLa Lnd.

Best case scenario

The Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics came out of nowhere to both win a ton of games last season, as the A’s won 97, and the Mariners won 89. The Angels have enough talent to be in the mix for a Wild Card spot in the American League this upcoming season, and with the Houston Astros likely winning the division, that is the best case scenario.

Worst case scenario

A fifth year outside of the playoffs for the Angels, who will be under the watch of Brad Ausmus after Mike Scioscia retired after the 2018 MLB season. Ausmus had a .486 winning percentage during his time as the Detroit Tigers manager a few years back, and those kind of numbers could lead to a last place finish in the AL West in 2019.
