San Francisco Giants

It has been five years since the San Francisco Giants won their last World Series, and in fact, they have not even been to the playoffs since the 2016 MLB season. Last season was a weird one, as Madison Bumgarner got hit with a comebacker in Spring Training, and ended up starting only 21 games. In his last two seasons, he has started only 38 games total, which coincides with this team’s struggles.

Heading into 2019, Bumgarner is healthy, and the team is hoping they get back to the form of two years ago, when they made it to the Divisional Series. The Giants will be with manager Bruce Bochy for a final season, as he announced he will retire after the 2019 campaign, so they will be looking to send him out as a winner this year.

Best case scenario

There is enough talent on this roster to make it to the playoffs this season, and if Bumgarner stays healthy, they have that horse at the top of the rotation. The NL West sent two teams to the playoffs last season, and while the Los Angeles Dodgers will likely win the division, there is no reason why this Giants team cannot keep pace with the rest of the league and win a Wild Card spot.

Worst case scenario

The Giants finish outside of the playoffs for a third straight season, and Bochy rides off into the sunset without getting a chance at a third ring as the team’s manager. There are a lot of questions to be answered when it comes to this team, including where the pop comes from in this outfield, and if players do not step up, they could be in for a 70-win season.
