Best and worst case scenario for every MLB team in 2019
By Brad Weiss
Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies were the official winners of the Bryce Harper sweepstakes this winter, inking the power-hitting outfielder to a monster contract that will keep him in the City of Brotherly Love for then next 13 seasons. Not only did they add Harper, but they bolstered their roster in other key places, including bringing in J.T. Realmuto from the Miami Marlins to be their catcher.
The bottom line is, this is a Phillies team ready to win now, and do not sleep on the acquisition of Andrew McCutchen, who brings so much to the locker room. Aaron Nola leads a solid rotation, and if the bullpen can keep up their end of the bargain, this is a team that should legitimately challenge for the National League pennant in 2019.
Best case scenario
Heading into the offseason, Philadelphia knew where their weaknesses were, and they did all they could to fill those voids with some elite talent. The best case scenario for this team will be them making it to the World Series, as they have the bats, and the arms to be the last teams standing in their league this season.
Worst case scenario
Philadelphia was not the only NL East team to improve their roster this offseason, and the fight for the divisional title will likely go down to the last weekend of the regular season. If the Phillies have to sneak into the playoffs as a Wild Card, it could be too big a hurdle to overcome, and this roster is build for the playoffs right now.
