Best and worst case scenario for every MLB team in 2019
By Brad Weiss
Seattle Mariners
The Seattle Mariners have already gotten out to a hot start, winning both games over the Oakland Athletics in their two-game series in Japan. Of course, that short series was highlighted by the retirement of Ichiro, who was an absolute legend during his time with the Mariners, and should be a first-ballot Hall of Famer in five years.
For Seattle to keep up their hot start, they are going to have to get good pitching throughout, as they have some veterans who can get the job don. Edwin Encarnacion was a nice addition at first base, and Dee Gordon and Tim Beckham is a nice combo up the middle. If they can get some pitching, this could be a team that surprises in 2019.
Best case scenario
The Mariners get enough pitching to stay in the picture when it comes to the Wild Card, as the division will likely be run away with by the Houston Astros. Seattle showed some poise in winning their two games against the A’s to kick off the 2019 MLB season, and if they can continue to come together as a team, finishing the year above .500 for the second year in a row is not out of the question.
Worst case scenario
Seattle is nobody’s favorite to win the AL West, or even make it to a Wild Card this season, so their season could go sideways in a hurry once we start ramping up the regular season schedule. They have some good bats in this lineup, and should be able to hit with anybody, but if they do not get pitching, it could be hard to repeat the 89-win season from a year ago.
