NHL DFS Man Advantage Thursday March 28th
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to NHL DFS Man Advantage for Thursday night March 28th! Tonight we have a full Thursday slate with 8 games on the schedule tonight and similar to Tuesday night a lot of the playoff bound teams have the night off. There are 16 teams on the slate, but 9 of them are not going to be in the playoffs this season, better than the 10 of 14 we had on Tuesday night but nonetheless it’ll be a fun night of hockey, like every night of hockey is.
Tonight’s NHL DFS Schedule:
Montreal @ Columbus
Projected Goal Total: 5.5
Washington @ Carolina
Projected Goal Total: 6
Detroit @ Buffalo
Projected Goal Total: 6
Florida @ Ottawa
Projected Goal Total: 6.5
NY Islanders @ Winnipeg
Projected Goal Total: 5.5
Dallas @ Edmonton
Projected Goal Total: 5.5
Los Angeles @ Vancouver
Projected Goal Total: 6
Chicago @ San Jose
Projected Goal Total: 6.5
NHL DFS Goalies:
Tonight’s goaltending situation is a strange one with most of the teams playing for something playing each other and the teams with nothing to play for squaring off. This makes picking a goalie semi difficult in my opinion. My top goalie for tonight though is Braden Holtby ($8,300), he is the highest priced goalie, but he could be worth the price tonight. He had a great game against Carolina on Tuesday night, he stopped 27 of 28 shots, earned the win and 7.4 DKFP. On the season Holtby is 3-0-0 with a 2.27 GAA as well as a .917 SV% and a 5.8 DKFP per game average.
Carey Price ($7,900) on the road in Columbus is my next goalie for tonight. Price has been dominant in 2 games against the Blue Jackets this season and that is the main reason I am interested in him on the road tonight. In two games against Columbus Price is 2-0-0 and has a 1.51 GAA and a ridiculous .956 SV% giving him an 8 DKFP per game average.
All of the goaltenders in the Detroit/Buffalo, LA/Vancouver, and Florida/Ottawa games are in play as well. These games are tricky because all 6 offenses, with maybe the exception of Florida, have been pretty anemic at times this season, but all 6 goaltending tandems have been equally has bad as well. If you are playing cash I would stick with Price or Holtby, but for GPP I am all for giving one of these 6 a go. It worked out for the few who played Craig Anderson on Tuesday night.
NHL DFS Top Forwards:
Top Tier:
Connor McDavid ($7,900)/Leon Draisaitl ($7,500) – This is the best, and most expensive, stack of the night but they are worth every penny. Both players are coming off 4 point games on Tuesday night against Los Angeles with 4 goals and 4 assists between them and totaling 26 DKFP. Dallas may be 2nd in the league as far as GA/G but this one of the best 1-2 punches in the league and are hardly every contained.
As for the rest of the top-tier tonight I am not really on anyone specific, but they are all good plays. If I were to rank them it would go as such:
1 – Jack Eichel ($7,600)
2- Alex Ovechkin ($8,000)
3- Aleksander Barkov ($7,700)
4- Patrick Kane ($7,900)
Mid Tier:
Max Domi ($6,000) – Domi has been one on Montreal’s top players as they make their push for the playoffs. During the Habs last 8 games, Domi has 5 goals and 3 assists and he has had some success against the Blue Jackets this season as well. In 2 games against the Jackets, Domi has 1 goal and 2 assists and an average of 4.5 DKFP per game.
Andreas Athanasiou ($5,500) – This is the 24 year old’s best year of his career by far with career highs in goals (29), assists (20), and points (49) and also his career high in average TOI. Over the Wings last 5 games Athanasiou has 5 goals and 2 assists. Athanasiou is good stacking option with the rest of the Red Wings top PP unit, I wouldn’t recommend his even strength linemates.
Anze Kopitar ($5,100) – Vancouver got lit up by the leagues worst offense in Anaheim on Tuesday, and now LA gets their shot. Kopitar has 2 goals and 6 assists over the Kings last 6 games. Kopitar centers the top line with Alex Iafallo and Dustin Brown.
Value Tier:
Andrei Svechnikov ($4,400) – Carolina has put together a pretty good 2nd line with Svechnikov, Jordan Staal , and Teuvo Teravainen. Over his last 8 games the Canes top pick form 2018 has 5 goals and 2 assists as well as 20 shots on goal.
Rudolf Balcers ($3,100) – Ottawa’s 21-year-old rookie from Latvia has been playing pretty good for the Senators of late with 1 goal and 4 assists over his last 7 games while playing on the third line with Colin White and Bobby Ryan. Recently Balcers was added to the Sens 2nd PP unit giving him even more value
NHL DFS Top Defensemen:
Top Tier:
Alex Edler ($6,100) – Edler is one of the leagues most underrated offensive defensemen in the NHL. Over Edler’s last 5 games he has 2 goals and 5 assists to go along with his 13 shots on goal and 11 blocked shots during that span.
Other Options: Jacob Trouba ($5,500), Brent Seabrook ($5,300)
Value Tier:
Niklas Kronwall ($2,900) – Kronwall has seen better days in his career but he still seeing around 20 minutes of TOI per game and still getting PP time as well. Kronwall is a good option to pair with Athanasiou.
Other Options: Christian Wolanin ($3,800), Adam Larsson ($3,100)
NHL DFS Line Stacks:
My top play as a line stack is going to be a familiar stack, the Capitals top PP unit. These guys are all threats to put one in at all times which makes them so dangerous.

NHL DFS Core Plays:
This was tough for me today, usually my build is easier but for some reason I was torn on some spots today. I know I am going to start with Carey Price in net. I want to play the obvious play with McDavid and Draisaitl, and then for some savings using the Senators second PP with Anthony Duclair and Balcers. Last I am going to use Athanasiou and Kronwall leaving you a nice $5,800 per player for your last defenseman and Utility spot.
