Although millions tried and failed to build the perfect bracket, a neuropsychologist from Columbus has managed to get through the first two rounds unscathed.

Everyone claims to be an expert when they first fill out their brackets, but that bravado usually fades away when a major upset reduces that perfectly constructed bracket to ruin. One man has defied the odds and correctly predicted all 48 games to date in the NCAA Tournament, leaving him with the only perfect bracket in America.

That bracket belongs to Gregg Nigl, a neuropsychologist who lives in Columbus, Ohio. Nigl, who is in attendance at the West Regional matchups in Anaheim tonight, has filled out a bracket for many years now but admits that this is the best he has ever done.

The odds of getting all 48 games correct to this point are just 1-in-9.2 quintillion, which are significantly worse odds than winning the lottery. Nigl, who is a fan of the Michigan Wolverines, doesn’t even have his favorite team cutting down the nets at the end of the day.

Nigl’s predicts Gonzaga will defeat Kentucky in the national championship game. The other two Final Four teams would be Duke coming out of the East and Virginia from the South Region.

Nigl’s other Elite Eight picks include Tennessee over Purdue in the South Region, North Carolina over Auburn in the Midwest, Michigan State over LSU in the East, and Michigan over Texas Tech out West. The Tennessee pick looked troubled early, but the Volunteers have gone on a massive second-half run, perhaps indicating that Nigl may have received some sort of psychic vision from the future when he filled out his bracket.

Nigl’s perfect run through the first two rounds is the stuff of legend, and it should make all amateur bracketologists jealous.

Update: All good things must come to an end and Nigl’s bracket is perfect no more after Purdue busted his bracket by beating Tennessee in overtime.

Heck of a run.
