DraftKings MLB Picks March 29: It’s Trout season!
About half the league is in action tonight. We have eight games for our DraftKings MLB tournaments, which is about the size of yesterday’s main slate. Just because everyone has played a game doesn’t mean there aren’t aces out there. There are still some very good pitchers to choose from.

Snellzilla ruined my two lineups. I had Berrios with him, but Javier Baez was in my other lineup, so I had the right players, just the wrong combination. Having Snell in both of my lines kept me just below the money line of 129.4.
uclaye had a monster with 257.55 DraftKings points. He used Ryu with Jose Berrios and stacked Dodgers and Cubs. His one-off of Corey Dickerson did nothing but pad his win. uclaye was a staggering 25 DraftKings points ahead of second place!
These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. We have plenty of writers on here who give you relevant information no matter which site you play on, and we all attack the slate from different angles.

DraftKings MLB Pitcher Plays:
Top Tier:
German Marquez ($9,200): Neither of the five figure arms do much for me tonight, but Marquez does. Marquez faced the Marlins twice last year, but that was before his dominant last six weeks of the season last year. The Marlins have little power, don’t make really strong contact, and strike out a lot. Marquez racked up 235 strikeouts last year. He should get a double digit jump towards 200 this year here!
Jack Flaherty ($9,000): Flaherty dominated the Brewers last year, racking up 100 DraftKings points on them in four starts despite only winning one of those games. He struck out 34 Brewers and gave up only five runs in 23.1 innings against Milwaukee last season. Pitching rules the early season, and Flaherty already ruled the Brewers last year. Don’t be surprised if that continues.
Middle Tier:
Charlie Morton ($8,700): Fun fact: Charlie Morton has never won a game at Tropicana Field. His 4.34 ERA there in three career starts leaves something to be desired and casts an ominous air over a start against an Astros team that beat up on Snellzilla yesterday. This price is a bit offputting, but Morton has good strikeout potential and he knows this team having been there for most of the last two years. The current Astros are just 4-23 against Morton, but he has never faced Springer, Altuve, or Correa.
Joey Lucchesi ($7,900): Never underestimate the four points for a win! Lucchesi has really good strikeout potential against a weak offense, but the concern with him is that he never goes deep into games. Lauer only threw 70 pitches in his six innings yesterday. There is a good chance that Lucchesi goes six here. If he does, he’s a bargain at this price.
Bargain Pitchers:
Trevor Richards ($7,000): We all know what happens when you take the Rockies out of Coors. The bats dry up. On top of that, Richards was dominant this Spring in five starts. He also had arguably the best game of his rookie year last year against the Rockies at Coors Field in June. Richards gave up just one run in six innings while striking out eight. There is enormous potential for Richards, and he is way too cheap!
Matt Shoemaker ($6,900): The Tigers were mowed down by Stroman yesterday. The same fate could await them today. Shoemaker doesn’t rack up a ton of strikeouts, but he does induce weak contact a lot. The average exit velocity of the Tigers he has faced is less than 90 mph. Shoemaker has only made 21 starts in the majors over the last two years because of injuries. This is a good place to get him back on track.
My picks: Lucchesi, Richards
DraftKings MLB stack options
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Matt Boyd:
Boyd was a serviceable pitcher last year for the most part, but he still had his troubles with right handed hitters. The Blue Jays are loaded with righties, though they don’t have the power they did last year. A Jays stack should start where it did yesterday: with Smoak. Smoak’s hot spring didn’t carry into Opening Day, but I’m willing to go back. Lourdes Gurriel and Kevin Pillar don’t have a lot of power, but they can get on base. Randal Grichuk and Teoscar Hernandez are the main power threats here. Pillar, Luke Maile, and Grichuk have all homered against Boyd in the past.
San Diego Padres vs. Derek Holland:
I usually don’t go out of my way to stack Padres, but against a journeyman lefty who get pummeled by right handers, this is the place to do it. Manny Machado had a disappointing Padres debut, but I’m starting with him tonight. Franmil Reyes is too cheap for the power he had. Wil Myers is expensive, but worth it. Same for Renfroe. The Padres are hitting .305 with three homers and ten runs in 95 at bats against Holland. Stack away! Even Eric Hosmer has a homer off of him!
Los Angeles Angels vs. Marco Estrada:
Estrada has given up 60 homers over the last two years and gave up two in Japan during the opening series. Estrada is an extreme fly ball pitcher against a lineup that has a ton of power. Mike Trout is elite tonight. Trout is 4-13 with a pair of homers against Estrada. Zack Cozart has homered twice against Estrada as well. Kole Calhoun, Justin Bour, and even Albert Pujols, who is 6-13 lifetime against Estrada, are really good plays as well.
Boston Red Sox vs. Yusei Kikuchi:
Okay, so, this isn’t necessarily going after Kikuchi. The Japanese import has been strong so far, but the Mariners are limiting his innings already. There’s a good chance that Kikuchi may not even go five innings here, so this is more a stack against the Seattle bullpen. The Red Sox are an elite offense. Mookie Betts is the must have for the Sox. Martinez, Benintendi, Bogaerts, and Mitch Moreland are also on my radar if you want to go with a full stack.
DraftKings MLB daily notes:
If you want to take a shot at Charlie Morton, I’m certainly not going to stop you. However, I would do it with the high priced Astros bats. Jose Altuve and George Springer would be my picks.

Matt Harvey was awful this spring, so taking a crack at him with a patient A’s lineup isn’t the worst idea. I like the power potential of Khris Davis and Matt Chapman the most, but Robbie Grossman cheap and batting leadoff is a very tempting value play.
Honestly, I’m not on Gerrit Cole at all. Not even a little. Avoiding Verlander yesterday wasn’t a great decision, and this could burn me as well, but the Rays were solid offensively at home. Tommy Pham is the only Rays player I really have any interest in, and for $4,000 I think we can do better.
Ryan Braun and Jesus Aguilar did homer off of Jack Flaherty last year, but they were only a combined 4-14. This is an all or nothing proposition here.
Freddy Peralta had a miserable spring, so I could see taking a crack at him with Kolten Wong, who homered twice in the opener. Matt Carpenter and Goldschmidt are solid plays as well.
Some are advocating a Dodgers stack against Robbie Ray, but I’m mostly on Kike Hernandez. Kike is 8-29(.276) with three homers and five RBI against Ray already. Ray dominates lefties, but righties clobber him. David Freese, Justin Turner, and A.J. Pollack are all on my radar as well, but Hernandez is a must play.
I don’t mind using Lewis Brinson or Curtis Granderson on the cheap, but I’m not going after Marquez tonight. Not even a little bit. I’ll take my value picks as part of a stack.
