The North Carolina Tar Heels hope to hold serve in the Sweet 16 as they take on the Auburn Tigers in March Madness on Friday, March 29 in Kansas City.
One of the only lower seeds to advance to the Sweet 16 in the 2019 NCAA Tournament was the Auburn Tigers, the 5-seed in the Midwest Region. On Friday night, they’ll now look to advance again as a lower seed as they tip things off in Kansas City by taking on the North Carolina Tar Heels, the top seed in the region, in what could be a classic March Madness matchup.
Though North Carolina had some troubles in their First Round matchup — in the first half — against Iona, they’ve hit their stride since. Roy Williams’ Tar Heels trounced Washington in the Second Round to advance to the second weekend of the tournament. Led by star freshman point guard Coby White and veterans Cameron Johnson and Luke Maye, UNC looks primed to make a deep run.
While that may be true, Auburn looked downright scary in their Second Round triumph over the Kansas Jayhawks. This is a Tigers team that lives and dies by the 3-point shot, and they were living in a big way with Bryce Brown and Justin Harper leading a long-range shooting barrage. Thus, they could put up a ton of points on any night they’re on the floor.
This should be a high-scoring affair on Friday night as both North Carolina and Auburn are terrific offensive teams. And be sure not to blink as they will be moving a furious pace from the opening tip to the final whistle. Meanwhile, you can track the score of the game below.
Details for Friday’s Sweet 16 matchup are below:

Auburn and North Carolina are clearly two of the top offensive teams in the NCAA Tournament to this point. However, both teams have the propensity to go cold. Thus, this could be a tremendously fun shootout or it could devolve into a blowout either way. No matter what happens, though, it should be a great Sweet 16 matchup.
