Fans will cheer for Rey Mysterio to hit Samoa Joe with a 619 at WrestleMania, but this is one match where the heel will emerge victorious.

The SmackDown team has done a terrific job of telling the story of real animosity between Samoa Joe and Rey Mysterio heading into WrestleMania 35. It’s a classic example of a big, mean heel trying to harm the quick, undersized, charismatic face. Unfortunately for fans of Mysterio, he’s going to take the pin on the grandest stage of them all.

Some WWE fans might see this match as a minor clash at WrestleMania, but this is a pretty big occasion in both superstars’ careers. Joe, obviously, is a relatively recent arrival to WWE and doesn’t yet have a WrestleMania moment to his name but has finally won gold by claiming the WWE United States Championship in March. This year’s match against Mysterio will be an important launching point for what’s next for the former TNA champion. For Mysterio, the introduction of his son Dominic into the mix is also a clear pivot point.

Mysterio is not going to challenge for the WWE title anytime soon, but he will serve as a venerable mentor to other luchador-style grapplers who want to join the company. That means he can’t look soft against Joe’s physicality. He also has unfinished business with Andrade that could serve as a WrestleMania distraction.

Samoa Joe is still going to win this match clean. Here are the top five reasons WWE will book the match that way.

5. The size difference

Size isn’t the most important thing in the WWE anymore, but Vince McMahon still favors bigger guys who can move. Joe doesn’t look like the greatest athlete in the company, but he’s shockingly athletic for his size.

When fans look at he and Mysterio in the ring together it’s going to look like a mismatch. That will happen several times throughout the night, but the higher-ups at the company don’t want to go against the perceived reality that often. That’s a big reason why Joe will go over against the smaller Mysterio.
