The Duke Blue Devils, the anointed favorites to win it all this year, fell short of that goal in the Elite 8, and Twitter had a field day.
There’s a certain type of joy one takes in when they witness the Duke Blue Devils lose a game, especially one as big as the Elite 8.
That joy is kind of hard to describe, as it takes on many forms, from the slightly delighted to the downright cruel. Duke is one of those teams that everyone takes delight in watching to lose. Like the New York Yankees, Toronto Maple Leafs, or any team LeBron James is playing on, seeing Duke lose in one of the biggest games of the year just tickles the funny bone.
Sure, it’s a pure nightmare for the kids on the team, and I can’t imagine how that locker room mood is at this point. For those who couldn’t care less about Duke, that is a scene they would sell their houses and cars to witness, to physically see the tears running down the face of Zion Williamson, the undisputed superstar of college basketball.
That’s the joy some people take of it, and nowhere is that captured in its purest, beautiful, and dark form, then on Twitter, and we turn to this weird exchange of thoughts and ideas to curate the best of them.
Enjoy.

(I feel sadness for Nipsey Hustle and your paper, but Duke doesn’t deserve that same pity.)

(Something tells me Coach K is getting really tired of recruiting one-and-done players.)
The good news for Duke is that they’ll return four sophomores looking for redemption and they’ll have a whole summer to get bett... pic.twitter.com/rEqS4X99Sw

I don't believe Duke and Kentucky's losses were referendums on one and dones. They've accounted for two NCAA titles. And the coaches who lost this weekend didn't do a bad job. It is HARD to win in this tourney! The better teams won. Full stop.

(Yep, the one who had to get serious. Way to kill the fun vibe, Seth! Even though you are 100 percent correct.)
2012: Kentucky has two top 5 picks, wins national title with ease.

2019: Duke has *three* top 5 picks, barely beats UCF, barely beats Virginia Tech, then loses in the Elite 8.
