MLB Bets To Win – Monday April 1st
By John Fazio
Good day and greetings from MLB bets at our handicapping central. Monday offers up 2 plays so let’s jump right into the action.
Sunday was a good day for MLB bets due to the big underdog win by Baltimore. This 2019 season has started off with some big name teams from last year not faring so well, including Boston, New York, Houston and the Cubs.
Using every game as 1 unit and adjusting for lay and take, MLB bets was up +2.2 on Sunday and is now up +6.00 units on this 4 day old season.
MLB bets typically has fewer plays on the opening game of a series, wanting to judge how the 2 teams are matching up first. Therefore this list of plays is shorter than normal. Time to see if we can start a new week out on the plus side. All times Eastern.
Tigers (+1.95) outlast Yankees, 6:35 pm
Detroit played fairly well in New York on the last 4 game series played there last year, splitting the series with their losing games decided by 1 and 2 runs. Today the Yankees are big favorites again.
The pitchers, Tyson Ross for Detroit and Domingo German for New York, pitched to almost identical ERA’s in spring training. Therefore the huge line is a result of perceived line-up strength.
However that strength is a ranking based on last year, not 2019. If it were, the Yanks would be about a pick or at most a small favorite today. The Yanks just lost a home series to Baltimore so let’s make them earn the respect of a huge favorite status first. In the meantime, they are a go-against at this price.
MLB Bets To Win – A’s Frustrate Red Sox
Oakland (+1.25) flog Boston, 10:07 pm
In similar fashion to the New York Yankees, Boston has started the season slow. In addition, their spring training was very bad. That was easy to write off at the time until the regular season extended the Red Sox woes.
Boston was last in the grapefruit league, ending 5 games below .500 including going 4-10 away from their home field. Their run differential was a minus 28, again worst in the league.
This should not be significant to a top-tier organization but so far it has been just that. They are a team to bet against as a road favorite until they return to last year’s form.
Today the Boston starter, David Price, has fallen to 4th on the depth chart due to a very poor showing in spring training. The Oakland starter, Aaron Brooks, performed much better and enters this game with confidence.
MLB bets believes Boston needs to right their ship before they are deserving of a favorite status. Oakland is playing better, they are at home, have a better starting pitcher on the hill, and are getting plus money. Boston is the favorite because of perceived line-up value going back to last year.
However even going back to last year, Oakland won 4 of the last 5 games played against Boston. Two wins came on the road and 2 came at home.
MLB bets cannot find any more plays worthy of mention for today.
