Byron Murphy, CB, Washington

Simply put, Murphy is likely the most ready-to-start option at the cornerback position entering the 2019 draft. Murphy won’t blow you away with flashy measurables (5-foot-11, 4.55 40-time), but his film doesn’t lie.

Murphy shows fantastic instincts and awareness traits. He diagnoses route concepts at a high level, making him a very ideal fit for what is expected to be a heavy pattern match coverage scheme in Kansas City.

The Washington product is a physical corner who will strike receivers with all of his force upon arrival. With four interceptions and 13 passes defensed in 2018, the ball skills are evident as well.

All of this combined should provide teams firm confidence in his ability to step in immediately as a starting-caliber cornerback. The Chiefs would likely need to trade up to around pick No. 20 to select Murphy.
