Kansas City Chiefs

General Manager Brett Veach has been called super aggressive. He’s also said to understand the position the team is in in terms of securing talent around Patrick Mahomes before having to sign him to the largest contract in NFL history.

If both of those thoughts are correct, Veach is very likely to package the team’s first-round pick, with one of their extra seconds from either this year (Marcus Peters trade) or next year (Dee Ford trade) in order to get in to the 15-19 range of the first round. This could be to target one of several players: Clelin Ferrell, Greedy Williams, etc. at a position of need for the team.

Another, less-mentioned option may be for the team to work to acquire a second pick in the first round. This would certainly be bold, and would likely require at least two of their four second-round picks over the next two seasons; but, it may also be the best way to maximize the talent around Mahomes to go all in for this season.

If quarterbacks get pushed up the board, and defensive players start to get pushed down, do not be surprised to see Veach make a move like this to give the team two No. 1 selections.
