3. Finn is headed to bigger and better things

The WWE made the surprising decision to make Balor the inaugural Universal Champion for a reason. They are big believers in his potential to become a big star. He’s destined for bigger and better things than a mid-card feud against Lashley.

In some ways, Balor fans should actually hope their favorite star drops the match to Lashley. That might free Balor up to emerge as a serious competitor for the top title in the company once again. He doesn’t seem quite ready for that sort of push yet, though. Instead, look for the WWE to try to use his gasp on the Intercontinental title to elevate that belt to new heights.

That doesn’t mean Lashley is going to get another chance at the strap. He might get one isolated rematch, but otherwise it’s time for Balor to step up and take on an opponent with more gravitas. Someone like Drew McIntyre might be appropriate. After all, the two have engaged in combat recently.

No matter what, Balor is well positioned for a big push after WrestleMania. It’s much easier for the WWE to execute that sort of push after a big victory. Giving Balor the clean win is the right play if the WWE has bigger plans for him this year.
