2) Dexter Lawrence, DT, Clemson

As not to beat the proverbial dead horse, everything said about Oliver applies here, only its magnified. First, Oliver made a mistake in the heat of the moment. Clemson defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence made a conscious decision and got himself suspended from the two biggest games of his team’s season. For those unaware, Lawrence tested positive for a banned substance towards the end of the season.

Lawrence’s positive drug test was compounded in terms of his draft stock when he suffered an injury during the combine. With those issues circulating around him, it’s pretty evident that teammates Clelin Ferrell and Christian Wilkins will both go well ahead of him in the draft come April 25.

It’s redundant here, but the depth of defensive line prospects in this draft will push Lawrence down boards. He could be a target for the Patriots at No. 32, the Chiefs at No. 29 or the Raiders at No. 26. All of those draft positions fall far short of the top 10 goals the prospect had to have had coming in to the season.
