NHL DFS Man Advantage Tuesday April 2nd
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to NHL DFS Man Advantage for Tuesday night April 2nd! Tonight is another big Tuesday slate with 10 games on the schedule. With the playoffs on the horizon next week there is plenty to play for, for some teams, while others may rest some of their top talents (IE: Calgary last night) so we need to make sure we check twitter to see what develops. Make sure you follow me @MVecchio81 as I will try and retweet any info I find out throughout the day (please be patient as sometimes I am little behind while I am working).
Tonight’s NHL DFS Schedule:
Nashville @ Buffalo
Projected Goal Total: 5.5
Boston @ Columbus
Projected Goal Total: 5.5
Carolina @ Toronto
Projected Goal Total: 6.5
Tampa Bay @ Montreal
Projected Goal Total: 6.5
Pittsburgh @ Detroit
Projected Goal Total: 6
Winnipeg @ Minnesota
Projected Goal Total: 5.5
Philadelphia @ Dallas
Projected Goal Total: 5.5
Edmonton @ Colorado
Projected Goal Total: 6.5
San Jose @ Vancouver
Projected Goal Total: 6.5
Los Angeles @ Arizona
Projected Goal Total: 5
NHL DFS Goalies:
Tonight we are loaded at the goalie position, which is much different then it has been lately. I really don’t have a favorite tonight, which is also rare. I have 5 goalies that I am interested all within $400 of each other, all of which are in good situations where they should all get the win. Ranking them in price order:
1 – Darcy Kuemper ($8,300) vs Los Angeles ( LA is on the second night of a back to back)
2 – Martin Jones ($8,100) @ Vancouver
3 – Connor Hellebuyck ($8,000) @ Minnesota ( Minnesota just got shutout by Kuemper on Sunday)
4 – Matt Murray ($7,900) @ Detroit
5 – Pekka Rinne ($7,900) @ Buffalo
With the exception of Kuemper, these guys are all on the road which is not typically where I like playing goalie, but the situation dictates that these guys should be some of the top DKFP goalies tonight.
I do have a GPP choice also for you in Cam Talbot ($7,300) on the road in Dallas. Coming into tonight the Stars rank 29th averaging only 2.52 GF/G and average 33.1 SF/G at home, 3 more shots per game then their season average. Talbot has not been great but this is a spot where you can get a goalie who could steal a win against a desperate team that may pepper him with more shots than normal
NHL DFS Top Forwards:
Top Tier:
Connor McDavid ($7,600)/Leon Draisaitl ($7,600) – I know I sound like a broken record touting these two every time they play but, can you blame me? I know I don’t need to tell you to play them, but I am anyway. This game has the highest projected goal total on slate (tied with 3 other games) and if Edmonton is going to score, it is more than likely that either or both of McDavid and Draisaitl are involved on the goal
Boston Bruins top line is my next Top Tier selection on the road in Columbus. There is a chance one or more of these guys sit because the B’s are locked into the 2 seed in the Atlantic Division. I will try to find out as early as I can and pass it along, but if all 3 play I will want to get one or more into my lineup even though it could be tough to do. This is the best line in hockey when they are clicking, which they have been of late. This trio has scored 20 of the Bruins last 40 goals and have combined for 44 points over the past 10 games.
Sidney Crosby ($7,200) – Crosby is suddenly ice cold of late with only 2 goals and 4 assists over the Pens last 10 games. I know for some players 6 points in 10 games is a great 2 weeks, but not for one of the best in the game. Sid the Kid needs to get it going, and he does have decent numbers against the Wings with 5 goals and 7 assists in his last 10 against Detroit
Mid Tier:
Timo Meier ($6,400) – Meier plays alongside Gustav Nyquist and Logan Couture for the Sharks top line who are in desperate need of a win. San Jose has only won once in their last 9 games, but has scored plenty during this poor stretch. Meier has 3 goals and 3 assists for the Sharks over their last 5, and is nearly a point per game player this season, his best as a pro.
Filip Forsberg ($5,800) – Forsberg is in a bit of a slump right now, but a visit to Northern New York may just be what he needs to get going again. Buffalo allows the 4th most goals against per game at home, allowing 3.18 per game.
Justin Williams ($5,400) – The ageless one has found a fountain of youth this season and is on pace to have his highest point total since 2011-12. Carolina has the Maple Leafs tonight, a night after clinching their playoff spot and seed so we might see Garret Sparks in net, who has been terrible losing 3 of his last 4 starts and has a 4.00 GAA in those games
Value Tier:
Oliver Bjorkstrand ($4,200) – Bjorkstrand comes into tonight’s matchup with the Bruins on a 5 game goal scoring streak totaling 6 goals during his streak. Along with Boone Jenner and Alexander Wennberg, Bjorkstrand and the 3rd line make a good value stack.
Tyler Bertuzzi ($3,900) – This weeks 2nd star of the week is Tyler Bertuzzi, who had his best week of the season last week. Bertuzzi is on a 4 game point streak with 3 goals and 7 assists, as well as 3 straight 3 point games.
Austin Watson ($3,300) – Watson was re-instated from his suspension last week and has not played in the NHL since January, but did have 4 goals in his 2 game AHL conditioning stint. I will try to update on Twitter when I find out about his status, but for his price if he is in the lineup he could be worth playing.
NHL DFS Top Defensemen:
Top Tier:
Tyson Barrie ($6,200) – Barrie has a goal and 2 assists in 2 games against the Oilers this season and averages 5.8 DKFP per game. In his last 3 games Barrie also has 1 goal and 2 assists. Barrie is my favorite D man tonight against an Oiler team that gives up goals in bunches
Other Options: Dougie Hamilton ($5,800), P.K. Subban ($5,000)
Value Tier:
Jaccob Slavin ($4,200) – There wasn’t much to really like in the value bin tonight, but I like that Slavin is relatively low-priced, and plays on the Canes top D pair and also the 2nd PP unit.
Other Options: Adam Larsson ($3,600), Jordie Benn ($3,100)
NHL DFS Line Stacks:
My top stack tonight is the Avalanche and their top PP unit at home against the 30th ranked penalty kill in the league, Edmonton.

San Jose has been playing some of their worst hockey all season, losing 8 of 9 like I mentioned earlier. Vancouver has a pretty good offense and San Jose has a mediocre penalty kill, and has allowed 45 PPG this season, good for 15th in the league.

Other Options: Columbus 2, Nashville PP 2, Buffalo 1, Pittsburgh PP 1, Winnipeg 1, Philadelphia 3 (value), Arizona PP 1
NHL DFS Lineup Build:
As of this writing I am going to use Darcy Kuemper as my goalie, but if I decide I need a few hundred dollars I could always go down to a Rinner or Murray. I am then locking in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Next, I want Justin Williams and his PP 2 linemate, defenseman Jaccob Slavin. Last I am taking a chance with Oliver Bjorkstrand and Alexander Wennberg. With only the utility and defenseman spot remaining you have $5,000 left per player.
