5 reasons why Baron Corbin will win at WrestleMania
Although almost the entire WWE Universe wants Kurt Angle to walk away victorious in his swan song, here are five reasons why Baron Corbin is leaving WrestleMania a winner.
1. Go out on your back
Putting someone over on your way out is a tradition that dates back to wrestling’s territorial days. Whenever someone was leaving a promotion for another, they’d often lose to an up and coming talent on their way out the door, as a way to leave the promotion in good hands and on good terms. After all, a wrestler might have had to return a territory and they definitely wouldn’t have received a warm welcome if they’d made the promotion look a fool previously, and who cares about losing a spot or being perceived weak if you no longer work there. Losing your final match in a promotion, while helping establish a current performer (also known as going out on your back) also extends to wrestlers who realize that their time in the squared circle is coming to a close and it’s time to hang up the boots.
The Ringer’s Kenny Herzog wrote about how retirement means a lot of things in wrestling, and while rarely it proves to be actual retirement. However, in Kurt Angle’s case it seems true (damn true). It’s hard to see “Your Olympic Hero” moving back to Impact (formerly TNA) or jumping to AEW at this point, and he seems more poised to transition into a backstage role than he does slapping on ankle locks on the indie circuit. Angle’s a legend and by all accounts respects the business and its traditions, so it’d make sense he’d do as many of the greats have done before him, and pass the torch as he leaves the ring.
Is Baron Corbin the right guy? Those with the book sure think so.
