The decreased role for Jordan Howard in the Bears’ backfield last season made his trade last week to the Eagles anything but surprising, but don’t expect Chicago to leave the 2019 Draft without more depth in the running backs room.

The Bears have checked in on a number of running backs throughout the draft process but one fit in particular is Temple’s Ryquell Armstead. At 5-foot-11, 220 pounds, Armstead is built as sturdy as they come and runs with a physicality possessed by very few backs in this particular class.

He isn’t particularly elusive but Armstead’s toughness and ability to will himself to extra yards will win him plenty of fans in draft rooms around the country. With Tarik Cohen already in the fold, the Bears have the luxury of pursuing workhorse backs like Armstead to continue to help utilize Cohen’s skill set in space.

The free agent signing of Mike Davis could be a great indication at the type of running back the Bears are looking for and Armstead has a lot of similar characteristics from a build and playing style standpoint.
