MLB Bets To Win, Wednesday April 3rd – Dog Eat Favorite?
By John Fazio
Good day and greetings from MLB bets central. In a classic twist on dog eat dog, favorites are falling hard as the big underlings pile up wins and reward their backers.
On Tuesday MLB bets had a great day, going 6-1 with 4 big dog winners. Using 1 unit as the base bet and allowing for the lay and take, yesterday showed a unit gain of +8.54 with the season now standing at +14.79 units.
In general, MLB bets likes to ride the early season trends as most of the public tries to force last years results into the line. There are good and great teams from last year under-performing and the system uses this to garner value against teams that should not be favored.
That said, let’s see if MLB bets can produce another winning day. All times Eastern.
Philadelphia (-1.30) scissors Washington, 1:05 pm
The Nationals have started the season very slow, trying to find their way without Bryce Harper, seemingly without an identity. The lack of confidence is showing in their play.
Today shows a difference in talent on the mound. The Philly starter Aaron Nola pitched opening day completing 6 innings allowing 2 hits and 1 run. Contrast the Nationals starter who pitched fairly well in spring training and is just now starting his first regular season game.
The Phillies are playing much better than Washington as a team so far, and any edge on the mound should be enough to propel Philadelphia to victory. In fact, even with a solid pitching edge yesterday for Washington, the Phillies had an easy time of it.
MLB bets wants to lay the small juice on the road team here. Until some evidence appears that Washington can wake up, or just as importantly that Philadelphia can be stopped, staying with the trend has been the profitable strategy.
MLB Bets To Win – Tigers outlast the Yankees
Detroit (+1.71) upends New York, 4:05 pm
The Tigers are playing on a par with the Yankees and MLB bets sees no reason why the Yankees should be favored by this much. Again it is the perceived strength of the teams by the public forcing the bookmaker to set the line high, especially today with this pitching match-up.
Detroit sends Matthew Boyd to the mound. He pitched moderately well last time out at Toronto, hurling 5 complete innings giving up 3 earned runs. However Jonathan Loaisiga, the New York starter, has yet to pitch this season and had a poor spring training, posting an ERA of just under seven.
This game is really a toss-up at best with an under achieving Yankee squad that is 2-3 on the year with all games played at home. Detroit is 3-3 having played all games on the road.
Detroit is the value play, both in team performance and starting pitchers. Here’s hoping this trends continues 1 more day.
Orioles (+1.48) fly by the Blue Jays, 4:07 pm
Wouldn’t it be something if Baltimore turned last season completely upside down and won as many games as they lost? Probably not, but MLB bets looks day by day and game by game. So far there is no reason to stop backing the Orioles.
Nate Karns goes for Baltimore and Matt Shoemaker starts for Toronto. This favors the Blue Jays but with Baltimore this hot, getting close to +1.50 is a good take. We have seen good pitchers fall by the wayside this young season; therefore siding with the better team over the better pitching match-up has been the profitable way to go.
The AL East standings table is truly amazing with Tampa Bay and Baltimore on top, New York in the middle, and Boston supported only by the bottom of the page. Baseball is a crazy game, and anything can happen.
Do not assume if or when the tide will turn and Boston along with the Yankees will be back on top. Play the current trend taking the big dogs – let them lose at least once before getting away from them.
MLB Bets To Win – Rangers overwhelm the Astros
Texas (+1.57) conquers Houston, 8:05 pm
In yet another game where the standings and team play evidently mean nothing, the Astros, with the better pitching match-up on paper, play in Texas as another sizeable favorite. MLB bets wants to again take the dog plus the big money.
Gerrit Cole goes for Houston after pitching very well in his first start. He completed 6 innings allowing 5 hits and 4 runs but only 1 run was earned. Mike Minor was blasted by the Cubs on opening day in Texas.
This situation has favored the better team this season and regardless of how the tides will turn as the spring rolls on, as of this moment Texas is the better team. The home dog is the value side and the play tonight.
Oakland (+1.32) stymies Boston, 10:07 pm
The A’s continue to roll. More appropriately said, Boston continues to tank, unable to get out of its own way.
In earlier articles it was pointed out Boston had a very bad spring training. For an elite team, that means nothing since supposedly their starters are great, not in need of work, and the team is merely gauging the younger players for development.
However this has become a distinctive pattern now. The Red Sox would be winless on the season if not for unearned runs and therefore are still a go against team. Yet they still are placed as the favorite even with a negative pitching match-up tonight.
Nathan Eovaldi goes for Boston after being shelled at Seattle in his first start. Marco Estrada takes the mound for Oakland having 2 starts in the books, pitching a combined 11 innings allowing 3 runs.
With Boston flailing and the mound advantage belonging to the A’s, Oakland is the play. Give us another day on this ride.
MLB Bets To Win – The Trend Is Your Friend
Don’t try to force the big name teams to win – let them prove it first.
This really has been an unusual start to a baseball season. Especially in the American League, flipping the standings upside down would be a lot closer to expectations then what actually has occurred.

What is making this profitable for us is the continued belief that what is happening now is such a fluke, surely the next day the big names win and all will be right with the world once again. However what really is happening now is much better for us, giving MLB bets huge dog wins and a trend remaining intact.
Stay the course and resist the temptation to back the favorites until they prove worthy of your support. Yes that could be today, but let them prove it. This ride on the dogs has put us way ahead.
Recapping The Plays For Wednesday April 3rd:
Philadelphia -1.30
Detroit +1.71
Baltimore +1.48
Texas +1.57
Oakland +1.32
Another possibility is San Francisco on the run line +1 1/2 runs again today. This is not an official play of MLB bets but this storied rivalry can produce strange results.
