Mid-credits and post-credits scene have become standard in superhero movies. Will Shazam! give you something worth waiting for?

Shazam! is tapped to be a hit for the DC cinematic universe, as the adaptation arm of the comic book giant learns once again fans want to have fun at the movies. Shazam! tells the story of Billy Batson (Asher Angel), a 14-year-old kid who has been granted the power to turn into an adult superhero called Shazam (Zachary Levi) whenever he shouts the word “shazam!”

Mid-credits scenes and post-credits scenes have become standard in the blockbuster game, particularly in superhero and franchise films that typically leverage the vignettes to tease what’s coming next.

According to Screenrant, Shazam! has both a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene. The former “explicitly sets up a sequel and is necessary to understanding where Warner Bros. and DC Films plan to take this solo franchise.” The latter, as described by Screenrant, is more of a “fun joke” for DC fans to appreciate.

What could Shazam! tease? Well, naturally it could tease more Shazam action, though a sequel has not yet been announced. The next DC Extended Universe movies are Birds of Prey (2020), Wonder Woman 1984 (2020) and The Batman (2021), though all three of these would clash tonally. (It seems unlikely Shazam will crossover in any of those properties.) So, sequel tease it is then!

As for that post-credits joke, Screenrant says the segment has already appeared in trailers so depending on your personal schedule, it might not be worth waiting out the final names.

Shazam!, starring Zachary Levi, is in theaters April 5.
