Fantasy Baseball 2019 Weekend Streaming Options
By Bill Pivetz
If you’re behind in starting pitching, here are some streaming options to help you win Week 1.
With one week of baseball in the books, there have been some interesting pitching performances. Blake Snell had a 13-strikeout game. Chris Sale is losing velocity. Both Matthew Boyd and Jordan Zimmermann shut down the Yankees. If you weren’t lucky enough to have any of these pitchers, you may be behind in fantasy baseball.
Luckily, there are a couple of days left to Week 1 and plenty of games to be played. With that, you should be able to make up ground whether you play in a head-to-head or roto league. While it is only the first week, you don’t want to fall too far behind and not be able to win.
I’ve been giving you my streaming options to start the season. I’ve hit on a couple already but it’s a long season. I’m hoping to keep the streak going with a few picks for the weekend games. These picks could be used in either season-long fantasy baseball or DFS.
Trevor Williams, vs. CIN on 4/6
Williams had a good first start to the season, going six innings with three hits, one walk and six strikeouts against the Reds. He faces the Reds again, but this time at home. The Reds offense hasn’t looked that good. Tucker Barnhart leads with a .308 average.

Williams has a good offense behind him to give him a win. If he can have a quality start in Great American Ballpark, he should be able to do it again at PNC Park. Williams is owned in just 35.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
Sandy Alcantara, @ ATL on 4/6
Alcantara will take the mound against division rival Braves. He was able to shut down the Rockies in his first start in Colorado. Alcantara pitched eight shutdown innings with four hits and six strikeouts.
The Braves have one of the better offenses in the National League. Ozzie Albies, Freddie Freeman and Ronald Acuna lead the charge. However, if Alcantara can hold the Rockies to four hits in Coors Field, why can he hold the Braves to four hits? It’s not the best logic, I know, but it could happen.
Brad Keller, @ DET on 4/7
This is a battle of the bottom of the AL Central. Keller of the Royals faces Tyson Ross of the Tigers. However, Keller has had two good starts against two other teams in this division. He pitched seven shutout innings against the White Sox and a quality start against the Twins, albeit the minimum requirements.
Christin Stewart is leading the Tigers in RBIs (three) and home runs (one) while hitting .045. So the threat of a high-scoring game is very low. As long as Keller can find his command and can throw more than 50 percent of his pitches for strikes, he could get his third-straight quality start.
Domingo German, @ BAL on 4/7
I recommended German earlier in the week and it paid off, so I’m doubling down. The Yankees offense is riddled with injuries so they need every pitcher to step up. German takes on the Orioles on Sunday.
German earned his first win after pitching five shutout innings with seven strikeouts. The Orioles best hitter is Trey Mancini, hitting .417 with three home runs and eight RBIs. The Yankees still have Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres and Gary Sanchez to support German for his second win of the season.
All four of these pitchers meet my criteria for a streaming pitcher. They have a solid team around them to earn a win and/or have a good matchup to reach the quality start requirements. It’s still early in the season, so I don’t pay attention to many trends.
There are some worth noticing, like Colorado’s struggles on the road. Streaming pitchers in those situations make sense.
