WWE WrestleMania 35 preview: WWE Championship Match

Kofi Kingston takes his shot at glory in a WWE Championship Match with Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35.
While every single wrestler in WWE aspires to be in a WWE Championship match at WrestleMania, not everyone can achieve such a dream. But Kofi Kingston will finally get the chance to achieve just that this Sunday as the veteran prepares for the biggest match of his career at WrestleMania 35.
Not even a thought in the title picture two months ago, Kingston took full advantage of an unfortunate injury to Ali just ahead of WWE Elimination Chamber. The 11-year veteran took part in a gauntlet match featuring all six participants in the Chamber match on the go-home episode of SmackDown Live and stole the show, as he’s done so many times throughout his career. Lasting more than an hour, Kingston scored numerous eliminations before being eliminated himself but managed to win over the WWE Universe, who just wanted more.
Kingston rode that momentum into the pay-per-view and found himself in the final two in the Elimination Chamber, facing off against WWE Champion Daniel Bryan and nearly winning the title after another stunning performance that seemingly earned him a one-on-one title opportunity against Bryan at WWE Fastlane. Unfortunately for Kingston, Vince McMahon had other ideas and he was replaced in the match by a returning Kevin Owens, with the Chairman saying that Kingston simply wasn’t good enough to be given a WWE Championship opportunity. He then tricked Kingston into thinking he was inserting him into the match but instead set up a two-on-one handicap match against The Bar that didn’t turn out so well.
With the WWE Universe aching for Kingston to finally be given his opportunity on the grandest stage of them all, McMahon told Kingston that he if could win a gauntlet match featuring Samoa Joe, Sheamus, Cesaro, Randy Orton and Rowan, then he would get his match at WrestleMania. Once again, Kingston overcame the odds to win but McMahon once again pumped the brakes and forced Kingston to defeat one more competitor, Bryan himself. Out of gas, Kingston put up another valiant effort but just couldn’t get the job done. All hope seemed lost for Kingston to get his title shot.
Not one to just take things in stride concerning their New Day stablemate, Big E and Xavier Woods came to his defense and threatened to walk out of WWE if Kingston wasn’t given a legitimate chance. McMahon then put Kingston’s fate in their hands, this time in the form of a tag team gauntlet match. If Big E and Woods could defeat a handful of teams, Kingston would finally get what he deserved. The New Day pulled it off, taking out Gallows and Anderson, Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura, The Bar, The Usos (who forfeited out of respect) and Bryan and Rowan to secure a spot at The Showcase of the Immortals for Kingston.
The contract is signed and the match is finally official: Bryan vs. Kingston for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35. This has “steal the show” written all over it.
