WrestleMania 35 results: Rollins stomps out Lesnar, wins Universal title
By Paul Bradley
In one of the bigger surprises of the day, Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar was the first match to take place on the WrestleMania 35 main card.
Brock Lesnar’s infamous advocate, Paul Heyman, came out to interrupt a moment between Hulk Hogan and the WrestleMania host, Alexa Bliss.
Heyman immediately grabbed a mic and said that if Lesnar was not going to be the main event of the show then he wanted to get his match over with and leave. The commentary team seemed concerned for Seth Rollins as this decision by Lesnar had almost certainly taken him off guard.
With no fear on his face, Rollins came out confidant as ever with his Titantron entrance showing a sword going into the skull tattoo that has adorned Lesnar’s back for years, and announcing him as the “Beast Slayer.”
Rollins wasn’t even able to have both feet touch the canvas before Lesnar was on him delivering forearms strikes and delivering his finisher, the F5, on the outside of the ring. Throwing Rollins repeatedly into the ring frame, commentator tables and suplexing Rollins through the wooden panel top one of the tables, Lesnar looked like a house on fire and seemed virtually unstoppable.
Finally getting to his feet, Rollins took several suplexes before pushing Lesnar into the ref and delivering a well deserved low blow to the longtime Universal Champion. This allowed Rollins to execute his finisher, The Stomp, to Lesnar three consecutive times and was able to keep Lesnar down for the three count.
Rollins stood triumphant on the stage swinging the Universal Championship over his head while Lesnar stared daggers at him from the ring.
Lesnar’s look told the viewer that this might not be the last time we see these two fight over the Universal title. For now, at least according to Heyman, Lesnar is headed for Las Vegas and Rollins will serve as the fighting champion he’s claimed he’ll be since his feud with Lesnar began.
