MLB Bets To Win – Monday April 8 – Seattle Rules!
By John Fazio
Good day and greetings from MLB Bets handicapping central. Today a new series starts for every team, but it’s Seattle that remains the focus story.
Sunday was a tough one for MLB Bets as it lost 3 games by 1 run. Fortunately the week and the season is still nicely ahead. Using 1 unit as the base and accounting for each games lay and take, MLB Bets is now +11.17 units since opening day. The Tigers to sweep was the focus game and I was glad to see them win for us.
Time to see what this new week brings, so here goes:
Chicago (+1.43) quiets Tampa Bay, 2:10 pm
The White Sox played Tampa Bay fairly well last year taking 4 of 6. Carlos Rodon goes for Chicago sporting a 1.59 ERA while Tampa Bay starter Blake Snell has had 1 good game and one bad game this season posting a 3.46 ERA.
Last year these 2 pitchers dueled each other on August 4th in Tampa, with the White Sox prevailing 2-1. Rodon is too good of a pitcher to be given this much plus money. MLB Bets wants to grab the value and back Chicago today.
Philadelphia (-1.32) upends Washington, 7:05 pm
The Phillies are too strong of a team and have enough weapons to handle the Nationals at this early point in the season. They are 5-1 at home and show signs of being a team to beat.
Anibal Sanchez (R) goes for Washington after starting at home against these same Phillies 5 days ago, pitching 4 innings allowing 4 runs on 3 strikeouts and 4 walks. He will need a much better showing on the road to stop the Phillies, who send Vince Velasquez (R) to the mound. He threw 1 hitless inning in relief against Washington and now gets the start.
Washington controlled the series last year but these teams are different now, with Washington a step back and Philadelphia a step ahead. MLB Bets wants to play this trend believing -1.32 is too low to pass up.
MLB Bets To Win – Yankees take game One
New York (+1.50) throttles Houston, 7:10 pm
The Yankees had an easy time of it in Baltimore. They look to continue their winning ways in Houston where they swept the 3 games played there last year.
Masahiro Tanaka (R) goes for New York. He has given up 2 earned runs in 12+ innings of work this season, striking out 12 and walking none. This is vital not to give Houston free passes via the walk.
Justin Verlander (R) starts for Houston after having a great first outing at Tampa Bay and then getting shelled in Texas. He split decisions last year with the Yankees, losing at home.
MLB Bets places a line much closer to pick than the -1.60 currently showing at the time of this overnight writing. Both these pitchers are solid so taking this hefty plus juice is the way to go.
In addition, Houston is 1-7 when facing teams from the American League East while Tanaka is 6-1 when starting against the American League West. New York is a good value today.
Los Angeles (-1.18) stifles St Louis, 7:45 pm
The Road team has been controlling this series thru last year. The way the Dodgers are playing this trend looks to continue.
Hyun-Jin Ryu (L) goes for the Dodgers. He has pitched 13 innings this season allowing 3 earned runs with 13 strikeouts and no walks. Both starts ended with Ryu getting credit for a win.
Miles Mikolas (R) starts for St Louis pitching 12 innings this season allowing 8 earned runs. This is unusual for him as he pitched much better last year, but has yet to find a groove this year. The Dodgers have a run differential of +30 so this is not a great spot for Mikolas to settle in.
Los Angeles is 4-0 in away games versus a right hander while St Louis is 1-4 against left-handed pitching. MLB Bets wants to lay the small juice on the Dodgers.
MLB Bets To Win – Mariners Sail On
Seattle (-1.18) whips Kansas City, 8:15 pm
What a start for Seattle as they continue to show strength both home and away. They have taken the last 5 in the series including 2 games in KC.
Felix Hernandez starts for the Mariners tossing 5 1/3 innings allowing 1 earned run at home to the Angels in his first start. He started and won 2 games against KC last year and pitched better at KC than at home.
Homer Bailey (R) goes for the Royals earning a no decision at home against Minnesota, pitching 5 innings giving up 3 earned runs. The pitching and team edge goes to Seattle today.
Seattle is 7-1 when Hernandez starts against the American League Central while KC is now 0-5 against right-handed starting pitchers. MLB Bets wants to ride the Mariner wave.
San Diego (+1.15) edges San Francisco, 9:45 pm
The Padres so far have the better team. The pitchers have both been good so this team advantage should be enough.
Eric Lauer (L) starts for the Padres. He had a bad outing last time out but in his first start at home against the Giants he threw 6 innings of shutout ball. Madison Bumgarner (L) takes the mound for the Giants with 2 quality starts this year, going 7 innings allowing 2 runs against San Diego.
The Padres are 4-1 in the series, and they are 6-0 versus left-handed pitching. San Francisco has lost 4 of 5 in Bumgarners last 5 starts against San Diego.
MLB Bets To Win – Angels down the Brewers
Los Angeles (-1.03) beats Milwaukee, 10:07 pm
The Angels have begun to turn the corner and MLB Bets believes they are a better team under their new manager. They will try to build on their 3 game winning streak tonight.

It’s been a tough road for the Halos as they have under performed versus salary expectations for some time now. Starting on the road at 1-5 didn’t help.
Milwaukee appears to have a more well-balanced team as opposed to the Angels who derive a lot of their offense from Mike Trout and rely on their pitching. This is an important early series as Milwaukee wants to establish dominance in the National League Central division while LAA needs to get back in the playoff hunt now.
Jhoulys Chacin (R) starts for the Brew Crew pitching 11 innings allowing 5 runs over 2 starts. He did get credit for the win in both games.
Trevor Cahill (R) goes for Los Angeles having pitched a bad game at Oakland but a very good game at Seattle in his last start. In total he has struck out 8 while walking only one.
Of note – the 3 away games Milwaukee played all went under the total and 9 of 10 games the Angels have played have also gone under.
The Halos are playing well at home and will need that edge against Milwaukee who appears to have the better team overall. However MLB Bets sees this as an Angels win due to this dominance at home and also that Milwaukee is 1-5 in their last 6 interleague away games.
