Texas Tech basketball fans continued a popular football tradition of throwing tortillas at the National Championship Game.
One of the better traditions in college sports you may not know about is Texas Tech’s tradition of tossing tortillas at the kickoff of football games.
That tradition began innocently enough in 1989 and continues to this day, but for the first time, the tradition was honored at the Men’s National Championship Game. In the first half of Tech’s game vs. Virginia, there was a tortilla timeout to clean up the tortilla that made its way on the court.
Whoever did the toss is instantly a hero for being the first tortilla tosser to hit the court at the National Championship.
Former Texas Tech quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes is in attendance at U.S. Bank Stadium, but if he tossed it, that sucker would be orbiting the stadium right now. He’s just too accurate and has far too much arm strength to let it flop down like that.
But whoever did it, itmight have been a spark of good luck too for the Red Raiders as they were in the middle of an 18-4 run to erase a 10-point deficit take a lead vs. Virginia during the time of the tortilla toss.
