WWE WrestleMania 35 review: Highlights, takeaways and projections

Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre
So, where is the breakdown for the United States Championship Match between Samoa Joe and Rey Mysterio? Reading it would take longer than that actual match. Joe squashed Mysterio in about a minute and will now be looking for a new challenger. It was great for Joe to finally get a match at WrestleMania and he looked strong, which was the right call.
Even with a match in between, albeit a short one, the crowd was still coming down from Kofimania as Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre hit the ring. The fans simply weren’t into this one, not that there was much to be into. AJ Styles and Randy Orton was more like a SmackDown Live match than a WrestleMania match; this felt more like a top-of-the-hour match on Monday Night Raw than it did a WrestleMania match, which is unfortunate because the potential for a violent clash between these two was built into their story.
It started out that way with the two trading blows, but they went to the ground pretty early on. Perhaps that’s due to Roman not truly being 100 percent yet, which would certainly be understandable given what he’s been through the last six months. This match just never took off, and the ending was very unspectacular with Reigns hitting a spear for the 1-2-3.
What’s next: I had predicted a double count-out finish here so neither Reigns nor McIntyre would have to take the clean loss, but on a feel-good night, a win for Reigns makes sense. Hopefully, this doesn’t hinder what McIntyre has been doing as of late, because he has the potential to be the biggest heel on Raw if he stays on Monday nights. He’d be a great challenger for Seth Rollins and a win at WrestleMania would have put him in that picture. So with Brock Lesnar now seemingly out of the way, is Reigns ready to go after the title he never lost? Reigns versus Rollins for the Universal Championship would make for a big main event in Saudi Arabia in June.
