It was a tough night for Texas Tech after the Red Raiders lost in the national title game, but one of their most famous alumni took to social media to show his pride in the program.
The outcome wasn’t what Patrick Mahomes wanted, but he’s awfully proud of Texas Tech for getting to the National Championship Game.
There may not be a worse feeling in sports than watching your team fall short in the championship game. Texas Tech fans have to live with that now after the school’s trademark defense suffered an epic meltdown in the overtime loss to Virginia.
The Cavaliers couldn’t be stopped from the perimeter, knocking down 11 three-point shots to win their first championship, and denied the Red Raiders the opportunity to do the same. While it is a bummer for the Texas Tech faithful, one of their most famous alumni took the opportunity to show his support for the school.
Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was in attendance for both of the team’s games in Minneapolis this weekend, sent out the following tweet shortly after the defeat.
I’m so proud of these guys. I don’t care what anyone says they fought to the end and represented #TexasTech love y’all boys! @TexasTechMBB

It may not make the Red Raiders or their fans feel any better right now, but it is still fantastic to see one of Texas Tech’s most famous alums show pride in his school. Texas Tech had an excellent season, advancing to the first Final Four and championship game in program history, and that is a run the fan base will never forget.
It may be tough to see the bright side in all of this now, but Mahomes does embody a positive attitude that is important for all fans to maintain when their teams go through a tough time. The Red Raiders fought their hearts out to get all the way to this moment, and Mahomes can provide a good example of positive sportsmanship.
It remains to be seen how the Red Raiders will look entering next season, but they will be proudly supported by their loyal fans like Mahomes, who can ease some of the pain in Lubbock by continuing to put on dazzling displays of athleticism in the NFL.
