Texas Tech barely missed out on winning the National Championship, and fans have found their scapegoat: Ted Cruz.
The biggest loser in this year’s National Championship game wasn’t a team, it was a person sitting in a luxury box inside U.S. Bank Stadium.
Ted Cruz — yes, THAT Ted Cruz.
As Texas Tech fans lick their wounds today following an overtime loss to Virigina in the title game, they’ve directed their ire not at any of the players or the Golden God head coach. Instead it’s pointed at Cruz for giving the team a kiss of death just moments before the wheels fell off what would have been the school’s first ever title game win.
Cruz, in all his infinite wisdom, posted a sorta-selfie of the game boasting that the Red Raiders were just seconds away from winning the title.
35 seconds. ONE point LEAD. GO RED RAIDERS!!! #1 Defense. pic.twitter.com/S5XBefCsk1

Almost immediately after that, Virginia stormed back. The game got tied up, overtime was forced, and Texas Tech headed back to Lubbock without a title.
Lyin’ Ted, amirite?
This isn’t the first time Cruz has been on the wrong side of history, whether for heinous reasons or not. Remember when he jumped on the Houston Rockets bandwagon before Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals last year?
Minutes before tipoff.... @HoustonRockets #ClutchCity GO ROCKETS!!!! pic.twitter.com/0ri7pCfhJV

After posting that, the Rockets proceeded to miss a historical amount of three pointers — 27 in a row, to be exact. Had Houston won, there’s a decent chance James Harden leads his team past a rag-tag Cleveland Cavaliers squad and wins his first ever NBA title.
He didn’t because Ted Cruz is the kiss of death. He’s the guy you want in your corner. Like, ever.
Unfortunately for Texas Tech fans, that’s firmly where he was on Monday night and it ended just as well as Cruz’s attempts to do anything more than win elections in a state where his party historically doesn’t lose them.
