WWE 205 Live preview, April 9, 2019: Watch online
Here is everything you need to know heading into the upcoming edition of WWE 205 Live for April 9, airing on the WWE Network.
This week’s episode of 205 Live will feature the fallout of Tony Nese’s huge win over Buddy Murphy to capture the Cruiserweight Championship at WrestleMania 35. Nese and Murphy kicked off the Kickoff Show by delivering an action-packed match for the fans who got there early enough to witness it. A shocking moment saw Nese pull off the victory to win his first title in WWE and end Murphy’s dominant reign as champion.
Murphy will likely want a rematch at some point, but WWE’s recent stipulations have featured the removal of automatic rematches. Both men have only been involved in a program against each other for a few weeks, so the potential for more matches is likely with both men having a lot more left to contribute.
Nese should get the chance to celebrate his big victory of becoming the new face of the program. The New Yorker not only won the title in the New York area, but he will have his first 205 Live as champion in Brooklyn at the final event of WrestleMania week in the Barclays Center. The start of his title reign may usher in a new era of the show.
Another interesting to story to watch on 205 Live is the rivalry between Cedric Alexander and Oney Lorcan. The two had a brawl two weeks ago before Lorcan officially signed with the brand. Lorcan had his first match as an official member of 205 Live last week by defeating Kalisto to make an impact as a relevant player on the show.
Alexander approached 205 Live general manager Drake Maverick backstage and asked for a match with Lorcan. Maverick stated that Alexander needed time to rest following his past month of strenuous matches.
This will likely be another episode where Alexander is off the card, while Lorcan has the better chance to have his second match. Hopefully some sort of interaction between the two competitors takes place to add more momentum to their feud.
Mike Kanellis’ win streak ended at one after he lost to Akira Tozawa in last week’s episode of 205 Live. Brian Kendrick was at ringside in Tozawa’s corner and informed the referee of Maria Kanellis’ trying to help steal the win for Mike. The feud between the two pairs will likely continue considering Kanellis and Tozawa now each have one win over the other.
Maria’s presence on the outside is the major story in play here as Kendrick was needed to neutralize her interference. Another win is clearly needed for the Kanellis couple to move forward on the 205 Live brand.
Nese may need some new challengers from the heel side if he can continue to retain the title over Murphy with Kanellis potentially filling that spot in the future. Tozawa could also be a contender for the title since he’s been a respected competitor from the show’s inception to today
The official 205 Live Twitter page was taken over by Mike during WrestleMania day, which featured many humorous videos. Mike was shown here interviewing Edge about his favorite cruiserweights before getting embarrassed:
WrestleMania week is always full of surprises and big names either debuting or returning to their respective shows. Raw and SmackDown are the shows that mostly feature the surprises, but 205 Live could certainly use some new additions. This week may be the best opportunity to get people talking about the show. 205 Live will need a great showing to get some momentum following WrestleMania 35.
