DraftKings MLB Early Picks April 10: Pay up for Bauer
We have four early games for our DraftKings MLB tournament. Like yesterday, there are still some really good afternoon options available. There are also a couple of gas cans out there. Who can we feel comfortable enough using and still get some exposure to an extreme fly ball pitcher in Denver?

Rain could be a problem in Chicago, but if they are willing to wait, I think that game gets played. It could put a kink in the starting pitching though since the best chance of rain is during the game. Denver is one I may stay off of completely. Not only is there an 18 mph wind in from left center, the wind will pick up and light rain will turn to snow, likely before the game is over. This game may not get played at all.
The afternoon slate went very well yesterday. Morton and Shoemaker were solid and the Rays stack, particularly Austin Meadows, paid off handsomely.
These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. We have plenty of writers on here who give you relevant information no matter which site you play on, and we all attack the slate from different angles.

With only six total pitchers, all of them get their name in lights today so I can highlight the pros and cons of all of them.
DraftKings MLB Early Pitcher Plays:
Top Tier:
Trevor Bauer ($11,000): Bauer is expensive, but he is likely worth it. We just saw Kluber lock down Detroit yesterday. Bauer has been even better this year. His past stats against Detroit are pretty solid. They are hitting .239 with two homers and nine runs in 109 at bats with a nice 35 strikeouts. It could be rough to find some nice bats with Bauer, but Bauer looks like the guy we need to build with today.
Tyler Glasnow ($9,700): The only thing holding me back on Glasnow is the weather. I don’t want to waste him if there’s a delay in the third inning or so. It looks like once a delay happens, then the rain is done for a while. I’m on Glasnow if this just starts late. I would love to fit both Glasnow and Bauer in a lineup, but that’s probably not feasible. However, Glasnow’s numbers are good enough to consider a fade in GPP formats
Middle Tier:
Matthew Boyd ($8,700): Wow, the price is high on Boyd. Cleveland’s offense was relatively dormant until yesterday when they teed off on Jordan Zimmerman. That alone should be cause for concern. The Indians are only hitting .250 against Boyd with two homers and four runs in 44 at bats. Those aren’t terrible numbers. However, the five strikeouts are. I just can’t see Boyd living up to this price, especially if the K’s aren’t there.
Bargain Pitchers:
Dereck Rodriguez ($7,800): D-Rod got smoked by the Rays in his last start, but we are quickly finding out that the Rays offense is pretty good. The Padres are hitting just .220 against Rodriguez in 41 at bats with one homer, two runs, and six strikeouts. Those are solid enough to think about using Rodriguez and Margevicius and hoping for a pitcher’s duel while stacking bats from the other games.
Nick Margevicius ($7,300): Margevicius put up 16.3 DraftKings points in his debut against the Giants and followed that up with a solid start in St. Louis. He’s not a big strikeout guy which does temper the upside, but Margevicius is easily the safest pitcher outside the top two this afternoon. The best bet is probably to put an ace with Margevicius and get Padres exposure on offense and hope Indians righties can pay off.
My picks: Bauer, Margevicius
Miguel Cabrera is 10-29(.345) with seven walks, a homer, and four RBI against Bauer. However, Miggy is struggling some this year. Nick Castellanos is 10-37(.270) with a homer and nine RBI if you want to leverage Bauer’s ownership with a couple of bats.
The Ramirez tandem of Hanley and Jose both have homered against Matt Boyd. Boyd has been off to a fast start, but if Cleveland’s offense follows suit from yesterday, there is some fantasy goodness here outside of the Ramirez faction. Eric Stamets and Greg Allen are worth a look on the cheap.
I would consider Reynaldo Lopez, but he has not had his best stuff this season, and there are some good lefties in the Rays lineup. Kevin Kiermaier and Brandon Lowe are the ones that really jump out. I will have some of the hot Yandy Diaz as well. This is probably the best stack option of the afternoon if you choose to avoid Coors. Hitters should be safe in this game.
I don’t know that hitters are safe at Coors either. Maybe early on. I tend to think this game gets pushed back or called entirely, which is unfortunate because the Braves are a great stack option too. If you want to play the risk of this getting played, Ender Inciarte has two homers in three at bats against Jeff Hoffman. Tyler Flowers and Freddie Freeman have homered off of Hoffman as well. For the Rockies side, it’s pretty simple. Blackmon, Arenado, a cheap outfielder, and Story.
I don’t really have any interest in Giants hitters, but Manuel Margot has homered off of Dereck Rodriguez before. There is a lot of power on the San Diego team if you want to chase after Rodriguez again, but I don’t know how deep I would go into this.
